Overview

AVC-ULTRA is a unified family of codecs that seamlessly work together to meet all your pro video encoding needs. The first family of advanced video coding for today and tomorrow, the AVC-ULTRA codec family is fully compliant with the H.264/AVC standard. Panasonic has also included the full DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO HD codec family to the new encoding ASIC, so you can utilize the DVCPRO family of formats that you're accustomed. From mastering to streaming, with AVC-ULTRA, the image quality and bit rate can be selected to match your application.

Codecs

AVC-ULTRA provides these enhancements by means of a unified codec scheme, which makes it possible to establish optimal workflows in image production for all applications. The main codecs in AVC-ULTRA include:
The AVC-Proxy enables extremely fast content delivery and offline edits of 720p and 1080i/p video at bitrates varying between 800 Kbps to 3.5 Mbps at 8 bits of pixel depth. Low-bit-rate, high-resolution, high-sound quality proxy video (Quick Time/H.264) is recorded with the original high resolution data.
AVC-LongG employs inter-frame (Long GOP) compression, utilizing the temporal correlation between adjacent pictures in the GOP, thereby providing significantly higher coding efficiency. Your files will hit hyper-speeds over your network with lower bandwidth requirements that means less time to upload your server than MPEG2 files of comparable quality, and less space to archive. Ideal for providing on-air content direct from the shooting location and for workflows using content transferred over the internet. Four bit rates are available: AVC-LongG50/25/12/6 Mbps. AVC-LongG50/25 support full raster HD with 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling at a bit rate of approximately 25 Mbps. AVC-LongG12 and AVC-Long6 support full HD raster resolution with 8-bit 4:2:0 sampling for speedier file-based IP delivery.
AVC-Intra is an intra-frame video codec with bit rates of 100 and 50Mbps (AVC-Intra 50), utilizing the High 10 Intra and High 422 Intra profiles of H.264 respectively. As an intra-frame approach, it captures and preserves the greatest amount of information while offering the greatest flexibility. AVC-Intra 100 gives video pros access to mastering quality HD recording and does not utilize any video sub-sampling. With 4:2:2, 10-bit Intra-frame coding, in 1080 progressive or interlace systems, AVC-Intra 100 records the full 1920x1080 raster, representative of master-quality recording. In 720 progressive systems, AVC-Intra 100 records the full 1280 x 720 raster, again without any video sub-sampling.
AVC-Intra Class50 achieves equivalent quality as 100 Mbps DVCPRO HD while needing only half of its bitrate. This significantly reduces storage and distribution costs for broadcast and production environments.
AVC-Intra Class200 doubles the bit rate of Class100 and compresses a 1080 or 720p, 10-bit, 4:2:2 image to around 200 Mbps. Class200 provides visually comparable quality to an uncompressed image regardless of the image content and is thus suitable for primetime image origination.
AVC-Intra Class4:4:4 supports 12-bit, 4:4:4 sampling with a bit rate of about 200 Mbps, one quarter that of HDCAM-SR HQ and one half of HDCAM SR SQ. Its 12-bit 4:4:4 sampling can be used as a master format suitable for any types of image manipulation such as color grading or chroma keying.
AVC-ULTRA 4K will deliver 4K image (4096 x 2160 resolution, 4:4:4 sampling, 24pfs) compressed to about 400Mbps from the source image of 7.6Gbps.

The AJ-PX270 is the first P2 HD handheld camcorder with AVC-ULTRA recording and built-in microP2 card slots. Available in early 2014, the HPX270 will have new 1/3" 3MOS image sensors to achieve 1080/60p (4:2:2 10-bit) recording, a newly designed, built-in, compact 22x zoom lens with a wide range from 28 mm to 616 mm; and three lens rings (Zoom, Focus, Iris) for full manual control. In addition to AVC-Intra100, the PX270 will offer AVC-LongG for extended recording and optional AVC-Intra200 for master level recording.

The 64GB and 32GB microP2 cards, with an SD card form factor, ensure high-speed transfer, high reliability and the writing assurance of all P2 formats, codecs, and frame rates. Furthering the versatility of the microP2 card adapter and microP2 card slots, their design allows Class 10 SDHC/SDXC cards (at bit rates only up to 50Mbps) to be used in P2 products The microP2 card’s double-layered UHS-II interface facilitates transfer speeds of 2.0 Gpbs (1.7 times faster than standard P2 media and 12 times faster than ordinary SD media).
