AIR FORCE TDY SOLUTION

Large enterprises, like the U.S. Air Force, find it useful or necessary to temporarily transfer specialized personnel from their originating organization to another organization needing their expertise—sometimes under battle or disaster conditions. Performing their duties in the new setting always requires reliability, connectivity, the highest possible uptime and easy transfer of data.

With their daylight-readable touchscreens, integrated sealed CAC card readers, and low failure rates, Panasonic Toughbook mobile computers allow Air Force personnel on temporary duty to perform their new job with greater efficiency and increased uptime, security and connectivity. To make data transfer easier, Toughbook mobile computers offer tool-less removable hard drives as well as WiFi and broadband capabilities, for use when approved under specific security situations. Panasonic provides a full range of Toughbook mobile computers to meet the various needs of the Air Force anywhere in the world.

NAVY GLOBAL INTRANET SOLUTION

The U.S. Navy now maintains large area networks (LANs) throughout much of its fleet, allowing the Navy to harness the power of commercial networks while ashore or aboard ships and submarines. However, due to the sometimes harsh conditions and corrosive environment in which these naval vessels operate, the laptops on the network must be rugged, inside and out. And since the navy expects to use them for long periods of time, they also require a long lifecycle of parts and service.

That is why the U.S. Navy deploys Panasonic Toughbook laptops aboard all submarines and surface ships. Toughbook rugged computers are built to protect against moisture, dust, drops and vibrations, making them ideally suited for naval settings. The sturdy magnesium alloy cases, spill-resistant keyboards and shock-mounted hard drives make Toughbook mobile computers extremely reliable. This reliability means Toughbook computers have longer lifecycles than standard, non-rugged computers. This translates to a lower total life-cycle cost, and Panasonic ensures parts availability far past the standard lifecycle of most other computers. Furthermore, the robust wireless capabilities of Toughbook computers assure steady voice, video and data connectivity through the U.S. Navy's global intranet.

The combination of rugged, reliable hardware and dependable wireless communications make Toughbook computers the ideal naval mobile communications device for the 21st century.

FOOD SAFETY INSPECTION SOLUTION (FSIS)

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety Inspection laboratories have a big job, monitoring food production processes nationwide—identifying, evaluating and responding to potential food-borne hazards or threats to the food supply. USDA food inspectors visit meat packing plants, canneries, and other food processing facilities testing for moisture, protein, fat and sodium content, as well as certain classes of chemical residues. Inspectors also investigate outbreaks caused by salmonella and escherichia coli (E. coli). Inspections using mobile computers can take place in freezing cold meat warehouses or hot commercial kitchens in all regions of the country. With inspectors traveling and working in such challenging environments, the USDA needs mobile computers that can withstand the constant exposure to temperature changes, moisture, chemicals and biological contaminants without failing.

Panasonic Toughbook mobile computers are engineered to handle the drops, bumps and spills they face during plant inspections. Toughbook computers have magnesium alloy cases, shock-mounted hard drives, and water-tight ports to protect against dirt, grease and fluids. Further, the spill-resistant keyboards can be easily sanitized if exposed to bacterial contaminants.

Some models also include touchscreens which improve data entry speed and accuracy as well as software navigation. Wireless connectivity allows inspectors to quickly and accurately transfer data to the USDA's central database—saving time when a warning, recall or other urgent action is required. These benefits combine to streamline the inspection and investigation process, boosting productivity and reducing costs.
