Tucson Arizona Police Department
Motorcycle officers in the Traffic Enforcement Division of
the Tucson Police Department used to be cut off from critical information
when out in the field. They were unable to access the computer-aided dispatch (CAD)
system and were dependent on radio transmissions for running criminal backgrounds
on people they stopped. To address these shortcomings, the department needed an
e-citation system that could run its existing desktop applications in a ruggedized,
mobile form factor that could withstand the elements. The department chose to equip
its officers with the Panasonic Toughbook® U1 with embedded Gobi™ 3G technology.
Because it runs a full Windows™ OS, the ultra-rugged, ultra-mobile handheld PC was
perfectly suited for issuing e-tickets and gave motorcycle officers real time access
to critical information. With the Panasonic Toughbook U1 solution, the Tucson PD
is seeing significant savings in time and money as well as an increased feeling
of safety from its officers.
Panasonic recommends Windows 8.
