Florida's Burgeoning Real Life Christian Church Expands Production Ministry With Panasonic P2 HD Camcorders, PTZ Cameras, AV-HS400A HD/SD Switcher
Worship & Production Team Creates Weekly Videos for TV and the Web
Real Life Christian Church (Clermont, FL), recognized as one of the fastest growing churches in the country, has increased its congregation more than 15-fold in nine years and now numbers more than 3,000 worshippers.

Commensurate with that surge, Real Life has made incremental technology investments in its worship and production ministry with the addition of Panasonic AG-HPX370, AG-HPX300 and AG-HPX170 HPX300 P2 HD camcorders, AW-HE100 integrated HD pan/tilt/zoom cameras, an AV-HS400A multi-format HD/SD switcher, and eight PT-DW6300US DLP projectors.

The church's Worship & Production Team oversees the live production of three weekly services (on Real Life's Clermont, East and South campuses (launching in December), as well as a live video stream on 316 Networks, the leading internet broadcast platform for religious ministries, and a live-to-tape version of Sunday worship that airs weekly on Good Life Broadcasting's WTGL-TV 45 (Orlando. FL).

Media Pastor Philip Ramsey explained that the AG-HPX370 and AG-HPX300 (the HPX370 predecessor), both in studio configuration, are placed at the front of the Clermont church, the heart of Real Life's new 90,000-square-foot facility.

These P2 HD camcorders are used to capture tight and medium shots; completing the four-camera acquisition of each service, two fixed-installation AW-HE100 PTZ cameras shoot panoramic views from house left and house right. The AG-HPX170 P2 HD handheld is used for all-purpose and roaming shots.

The weekend services at Clermont are captured for IMAG, as well as a downstream mix for the web and a campus feed to the other sites. Beyond the extensive live production, the HPX370/HPX300 are shooting AVC-Intra 100 recordings in 720p for any requisite editing, and the program feed is recorded to an AJA Ki Pro. Editing is done in Final Cut Pro.

The HS400A switcher resides in the video control room. All the Real Life campuses use the PT-DW6300US 6000 lumens WXGA projectors, with five of the DLP projectors installed in the Clermont facility, three in the main auditorium and two in the "attic," a smaller, independent worship venue.

"The AVC-Intra codec is excellent, and facilitates lengthy record times at top HD quality," said Pastor Ramsey. "We're able to keep the P2 cards in the camcorders all weekend and never have to change them out. We've embraced the P2 workflow, and are realizing considerable time-efficiencies in post."

"We chose the HE100 PTZs based on their superb remote HD quality, and their seamless integration with our lens and control requirements," he continued. "The built-in MultiViewer preview of up to 10 images from different sources is the HS400A's most compelling capability, but overall the switcher is reliable, robust and has multiple, advanced key effects: a lot of good features for the money."

"We are very video focused and didn't want to short-change our choice of a projector as we moved to a DLP system," Pastor Ramsey said. "The DW6300US' high brightness of 6000 lumens is exactly what we need, and with the projectors' Dual Lamp system we can count on 24/7 operation and no image interruptions even if a lamp burns out."
