Medical Solutions

related information
Military and other federal medical agencies must be able to administer advanced medical treatment quickly and effectively in harsh field environments, including battle conditions. Durable Toughbook® computers, outfitted with sophisticated information-management systems, like electronic medical records (EMR) software, help the federal government and armed forces meet these important challenges.
select solution:

Medical Communications for Combat and Casualty Care (MC4) Solution

Medical Communications for Combat Casualty Care (MC4) is the U.S. Army's medical records tracking system for all deployed service personnel. MC4 integrates and supports a comprehensive, lifelong, electronic medical record for service members, while enhancing medical situational awareness for commanders. Prior to the creation of MC4, the U.S. Army relied primarily on an inadequate paper-based system which was laborious, inefficient and error-prone. Handwritten records had to be transferred manually into the system later, rather than in real time, often leading to lags between changes in the medical status of personnel and their corresponding records.

The current MC4 program is built upon rugged and reliable Panasonic Toughbook mobile computers, eliminating the inefficiencies of the paper-based approach. The integrated MC4 system can receive, store, process and transmit medical records and other data in the harshest environments. MC4 utilizes thousands of Toughbook mobile computers with durable magnesium alloy cases, daylight-viewable screens, spill-resistant keyboards and shock-mounted hard drives that assure reliable operations even under battlefield conditions. These Toughbook units can be mounted in ambulances, helicopters and Bradley fighting vehicles, quickly delivering critical medical information where it is needed to save lives when time is of the essence.

NORAD Emergency Surgeons Solution

U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) employs surgeons and other medical personnel who are trained and ready to respond to military and terrorist attacks, as well as civilian emergencies like hurricanes. When deployed to an emergency scene, the environmental conditions are often challenging and power failures are the norm. Yet, NORAD medical staff must still gain access to patient records, reference materials and other vital data, and remain in contact with headquarters.

NORAD surgeons use Panasonic Toughbook mobile computers because they are built to work in the harshest environments. Toughbook computers have spill-resistant keyboards, magnesium alloy cases, shock-mounted hard drives and internal dampeners that protect against vibrations. Furthermore, some Toughbook units can be sanitized and employ a fanless design to prevent germs and bacteria from being drawn into the machine and then inadvertently circulated back into sterile environments. The long battery life and robust wireless connectivity allow NORAD personnel to access electronic patient records and medical reference materials regardless of the environmental conditions or the availability of electricity. Rugged Toughbook mobile computers enable NORAD surgeons to perform critical operations and save lives under even the most challenging circumstances.

USAF Medical Hospitals Solution

The United States Air Force (USAF) operates medical groups, medical centers and hospitals at dozens of Air Force bases across the nation and internationally. Managing these facilities involves scheduling personnel, distributing supplies, maintaining equipment and tracking medical records. It’s an enormous challenge that must be coordinated between many geographically-dispersed facilities.

The Air Force uses Panasonic Toughbook mobile computers to empower its hospital administrators to work while mobile, within the hospital or when visiting other Air Force bases. With their rugged, sanitizable exterior, spill-resistant keyboards and shock-mounted hard drives, Toughbook mobile computers are well suited to the challenges of hospital management. The robust wireless feature and touchscreens allow administrators to quickly access centralized hospital schedules, supply lists, equipment maintenance forms, and electronic medical records. The long battery life allows personnel to work for longer periods while mobile, further boosting their productivity. Using Toughbook mobile computing solutions enables the Air Force to operate its medical facilities more efficiently—leading to better patient care throughout the entire Air Force medical system.
