Is Panasonic’s JZ Series a hearing aid or an assistive listening device (ALD)?
JZ is a 3 channel (WH-103JZ)/5 channel (WH-105JZ), programmable, digital hearing instrument. The FDA mandates that only a licensed professional dispense the JZ.
How is the JZ programmed?
The JZ programming menu can be accessed through the hand held processor. No additional fitting software or equipment is required. Please see the JZ Quick Start Programming Guide or the JZ Operating Instruction Manual for more information.
Can I perform probe microphone measurements using the JZ head set?
Yes. Simply follow the same procedure that is used for traditional hearing instruments. Some fine tuning may be required as the fitting algorithm used in 103JZ is proprietary. The 105JZ uses NAL-NL1.
How do I verify specification of hearing aid characteristics?
ANSI standards can be tested in each headphone using a 2cc coupler. Please visit www.panasonic.com/hearing for specifications. Set the JZ hearing aid as follows:
1. Enter a 70 dB SPL loss in the F1 fitting screen (enter a 90 dB SPL hearing loss for the JZ Power).
2. Turn off feedback control, noise reduction and wind management
3. Set AGC to 0
4. Route sound to appropriate earphone.
5. Exit fitting mode
6. Turn on power
7. Select quiet listening mode
8. Turn VC all the way up
Is each memory programmable?
No. You can program the standard listening program only. The other three programs are variations of the standard listening program and cannot be adjusted independently.
How long does it take to fully charge the JZ?
Approximately 2.5 hours
What is the expected battery life?
Approximately 10 hours
Am I required to make adjustments in all fitting menus?
No. We recommend entering thresholds in F1 fitting menu only. Verification and Fine tuning menus added as convenience to the professional, but are both optional.
Why is one cords longer than the other (103JZ only)?
The 103JZ is not meant to be worn like a typical “Y’ cord. Instead, the longer cord (right) will go behind the user’s neck and down the left side. See page 29 of operation manual.
How do I use JZ with a telephone?
Telephone use is accomplished acoustically, through the microphone. Careful placement is required for best sound quality and to eliminate potential for feedback.
The LED does not illuminate while the unit is on the charger.
JZ is fully charged
The LED is flashing while the unit is on the charger.
Flashing LED indicates a problem with charging function. Please ensure that only the Panasonic Nickel Hydride rechargeable batteries that were sold with the unit are in the battery compartment. Check the battery contacts on the bottom of the processor and on the charger for dust or debris. If needed, use a dry cloth to clean contacts.
What should I do if I my battery dies while I’m using the JZ?
Simply replace the rechargeable battery with any commercial AAA alkaline battery
Can the JZ be used while it is charging?
No. Ensure that the power is off prior to placing JZ on the charger
