Panasonic Serves Up Open Platform Solution For Carrabba's Italian Grill.
Integration with Third Party Software Increases Applications for Panasonic POS Systems.
Established as a leading provider of Point of Sale (POS) Systems for Quick Serve Restaurants (QSR), Panasonic Information Systems has expanded the applications for its JS-930 POS workstation to now also include the table service market. As a result of the JS930's open platform, hospitality chains such as Carrabba's Italian Grill can now integrate third-party software with the Panasonic JS-930 POS workstation and create a customized POS solution to meet their specific needs and preferences.
"I was adamant about continuing to use Panasonic POS terminals in Carrabba's based on positive experiences with previous models. They are reliable and hold up well to long term exposure to grease, dust and daily use," said Jodi Roeske, Vice President of Training and Development, Carrabba's Italian Grill. "The flexibility of the JS-930's open architecture allowed us to choose the outside software we felt was the best for our stores and the end result is a high performance POS system that perfectly meets our needs."
Carrabba's Italian Grill is a nationwide chain of restaurants that focuses on grilled items, pasta and Italian culinary classics. Originating in Houston, TX in 1986, rights to develop the chain nationwide were acquired by Outback Steakhouse, Inc. (OSI) in 1995. They now operate 212 Carrabba's Italian Grill restaurants in 32 states.
The restaurants have standardized order entry operations with Panasonic POS workstations and depending on the volume, anywhere from four to seven terminals are deployed in each location. To maximize efficiency, orders entered into the terminal are printed to the kitchen, making it faster and easier for staff and customers alike.
"There's a saying in the restaurant business that you don't make money standing at the cash register," said Ms. Roeske. "The JS-930 touch screen is bright and legible and this helps improve the speed of the keystroke. Its powerful processing capability also allows for quick transitions to the next screen display so our serving staff can complete the order quickly and get back to attending customers."
According to Ms. Roeske, Panasonic had been the POS systems brand of choice for several years due to their durability and dependability. When the restaurant's needs changed, she approached her vendors to devise a solution that would allow her to use Panasonic terminals with a third party software suite.
"At the time we were using the Panasonic JS170 workstations and there were some challenges to overcome integrating third-party software. Our system integrator, RDS of Florida, worked with Panasonic and was able to create a custom solution for us," she said. "Now with the Panasonic JS-930 POS workstations, it's a seamless operation and we couldn't be more pleased."
According to Doyle Ledford, Director, Panasonic Information Systems, the Company's core competency in POS hardware development has allowed them to design a product that meets the demands of a variety of applications.
"To be an industry leader in POS systems technology requires more than servicing a vertical market with quality products," he said. "It also means adapting to developments within the industry that are leading customers to a more integrated systems approach to the technology side of their business. The JS-930 has been engineered to offer customers the needed flexibility and power to meet the changing demands within the food service industry."
