PANASONIC DEBUTS PLUG-IN COMPUTER WITH SCALA SOFTWARE BUILT-IN TO FACILITATE PLASMA DISPLAYS USAGE IN DIGITAL SIGNAGE SYSTEMS

PLUG-VC250XSSECAUCUS, NJ (March 22, 2004)
- Panasonic announced today the availability of the PLUG-VC250XS, a plug-in computer with SCALA InfoChannel Player 3 software pre-installed, that provides a turnkey solution for digital signage applications.

This turnkey solution teams Panasonic’s industry-leading, high-contrast plasma displays, the PLUG-VC205XS “computer on a board” and SCALA’s InfoChannel Player 3 software for 24/7 playback on local or remote displays. SCALA is well known for its popular digital signage and content creation and management software.

“ Panasonic is pleased to cooperate with SCALA to offer a totally integrated digital visual messaging solution in a wide range of multimedia display applications, including retail, corporate communications, cable television, education, and government,” said Stuart English, Vice President, Marketing, Panasonic Broadcast.

PLUG-VC250XS“ SCALA is pleased to support Panasonic’s new plug-in computer. This is the world’s first truly integrated display for digital signage,” said Jeff Porter, Executive Vice President, SCALA.

Eliminating the cumbersome requirement of additional hardware, the PLUG-VC250XS “computer on a board” installs easily in the interchangeable multi-function slots of Panasonic’s 42” and 50” 6-series plasma displays. The PLUG-VC250XS is equipped with a Pentium-M 900MHz CPU, 256MB RAM memory, 30 GB Hard Drive and network interfaces including two PCMCIA slots, two USB ports, a serial control port and an Ethernet LAN port. The PLUG-VC250XS is pre-installed with the Windows XP Embedded Operating System and SCALA InfoChannel Player 3 software.

In a conventional system installation (minus the PLUG-VC250XS), the user would need to install the InfoChannel Player 3 software into a standard PC and then locate the PC 2adjacent to each display. Additional hardware is often required to house the PC, and power and additional cabling are required between the PC and the display (VGA, Serial control, etc). The PLUG-VC250XS eliminates all these cumbersome requirements.

The operating system is carefully pre-configured to maximize the capability of both hardware and software, and the InfoChannel Player 3 application is already installed in the PLUG-VC250XS. Users just plug it into the interchangeable slot of a Panasonic plasma display and connect it with an Ethernet cable. The power is supplied by the plasma display to the PLUG-VC250XS internally. After a couple of initial set-up steps, the display is ready to work in the SCALA network environment.
