Frame Rate Converter for Final Cut Pro
The Frame Rate Converter for DVCPRO HD is a software plug-in for Final Cut Pro that emulates the traditional film camera under/overcrank process followed by telecine transfer, thus permitting high definition source footage captured "off speed" by the Panasonic VariCam® or AG-HVX200 to be resolved to one of three nominal editing frame rates: 24fps, 30fps, or 60fps.
The VariCam or AG-HVX200 can capture imagery at operator-selectable frame rates from 4 to 60 fps, and a simple "pulldown" or frame-repeat technique is used to match the actual capturing frame rate to that of the 720P/60 DVCPRO HD recording format. The recorded footage is then ingested in its native form over IEEE 1394 into Final Cut Pro at 60fps. Once transferred, the Frame Rate Converter plug-in can convert any specified clip to a new 24fps, 30fps, or 60fps timeline clip. Menu options exist for the removal or non-removal of the "pulldown frames" as required. The benefits of this plug-in are significantly superior slow or fast motion speed effects, when compared to more traditional field or frame interpolation techniques, and easy integration of the DVCPRO HD source footage onto the editing timeline.
