Commitment to the Future
Panasonic has a mission to continually minimize its impact on the Earth. In the Green Plan 2010, Panasonic has outlined concrete goals, including lessening its carbon footprint and making its products and factories safer for the environment.
Reducing carbon dioxide emissions
In 2007, Panasonic pledged to eliminate 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions worldwide by 2010. As part of the plan, Panasonic is including carbon dioxide emissions to its critical management indicators including sales, operating profit and inventory as a method of reinforcing efforts to address climate protection.
Making every product a Green Product
Panasonic accredits goods as "Green Products" that meet enhanced environmental performance criteria such as low greenhouse gas emissions and efficient resource utilization. The Green Product development rate measures the total value of Green Products shipped from Panasonic's factories as a proportion of the products developed in that year. Panasonic aims to raise the rate to at least 90 percent by 2010, even while progressively raising accreditation standards. The company's goal is to have every one of its goods labeled Green Products.
Making every factory a Clean Factory
Making every factory a Clean Factory
Panasonic accredits environmentally-sound plants with the "Clean Factory" label. Some criteria for Clean Factory status include recycling 98 percent of generated waste and using eco-friendly coatings on outer walls. A 2007 accreditation found that 250 of Panasonic's plants — 78 percent — were Clean Factories. By 2010, Panasonic aims to raise the number of plants worldwide that meet these guidelines to at least 90 percent. Panasonic is dedicated to making sure every one if its factories are eventually accredited as clean.
