Global Broadcast System (GBS)

Global Broadcast System (GBS) is a high-speed, wideband military satellite communications system that broadcasts near real-time data to joint military forces around the world. A vital component of GBS is Raytheon’s Next Generation Receive Terminal (NGRT), a specialized tracking antenna developed to receive the GBS broadcast. U.S. Army Lightweight Counter-Mortar Radar (LCMR)

The Lightweight Counter-Mortar Radar (LCMR) detects and locates mortar firing positions by sensing and tracking the mortar shell and then backtracking to the weapon position. LCMR allows U.S. forces to rapidly detect the origin of enemy mortar fire and suppress the attack, using a rugged laptop computer to transmit this critical information. The U.S. Army chose the reliable Toughbook because it processes and transmits data quickly and securely and is rugged enough to stand up to harsh combat conditions.
