BIOS
How do I get into the BIOS Setup Utility?
When the laptop is first powered on, the Panasonic name appears in white lettering, with the phrase 'Press F2 to enter Setup' directly below it. When this phrase appears on the screen, immediately press F2 on your keyboard. It might be necessary to press the key more than once.

CD-ROM Drive (CDD)/DVD
Is my CD/DVD drive bootable?
Many (but not all) USB CD-ROM drives are bootable on the CF-18. All Panasonic USB CD-ROM drives are bootable. To boot to your bootable CD-ROM/DVD drive, follow the procedure below:

When the Toughbook is first powered on, the Panasonic name appears in white lettering, with the phrase "Press F2 to enter Setup" directly below it. When this phrase appears on the screen, immediately press F2 on your keyboard. It may be necessary to press the key more than once.

Using the Right Arrow key on your keyboard, highlight the Boot menu heading.

Use the Up Arrow key or the Down Arrow key to select [CD/DVD Drive].

Then, using the F6 key, move [CD/DVD Drive] up the list to the No. 1 listing.

Press the Esc key once.

Save Values and Exit should be highlighted. Press Enter to choose the Save Values and Exit menu item. Press Enter again to confirm this choice. The Toughbook will automatically reboot itself.
Is there a DVD drive available?

How do I use the multimedia pocket?
Make sure the multimedia door is open, then turn the laptop over. Push the MP release lever toward the drive, and the drive will pop out. Slide your floppy drive or CD/DVD drive into the bay.
Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
Can I remove the hard drive on the CF-29 Toughbook?
Yes. The hard drive is located on the right side of the unit. Detailed instructions can found in the reference manual, available for download by visiting the Download Center.

Integrated Global Positioning System (GPS)
What is my GPS' accuracy?
GPS in the CF-29C/E/H/L has an accuracy of 10 meters, with 2DRMS.

GPS in the CF-29N is WAAS-capable. Its accuracy is approximately two meters, with 2DRMS.
Where can I find the drivers for my integrated GPS?
The GPS available on the CF-29 does not require the installation of any device drivers.

Note: The GPS available with the Panasonic CF-29 Toughbook conforms to the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) 0183 standard.
How do I find my GPS?
Open the Device Manager and scroll down to Ports. Take note of which COM ports are listed. Open HyperTerminal (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications) and change Connect Using to one of the COM ports listed in Device Manager. Change Bits Per Second to 4,800 and click OK. If you see information scrolling on the screen, you have found your GPS module's COM port.
Integrated Wireless Modem
My EVDO modem is giving me an error 'USB Not Detected' message in Device Manager,
      which has resulted in 'Searching for Modem' or 'Unable to Register' messages.
It is possible to avoid this by ensuring that normal, power-down protocols are followed. It is also important to note that, in the event of this error, it is not recoverable by the customer and must be returned to Sierra Wireless via Panasonic. If you see this message, please call 1-800-Laptop5 (800-527-8675).
My EVDO modem does not work. How do I install the software?
Use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the previous version of Watcher. Reboot your laptop and turn off your EVDO modem. Reinstall your Watcher software and reboot laptop. Make sure the modem is on during the installation, so it can be detected and installed.
Integrated Wireless Network Interface Card
How do I connect with my WLAN (Intel® PROSet versions 8.0 and 9.0)?
Intel® PROset Version 8.0 Open your Intel® PROset software and make sure the switch radio is on. If it is not, select On. Go to the Networks tab and click the Scan button. When your network is found, click on it once and click Connect. Intel® PROset will ask you to create a profile. Click Yes and input your network and security information into the profile. When you are done, click Finish.

Intel® PROset Version 9.0 Open your Intel® PROset software and make sure the switch radio is on. If it is not, select On. In the lower-right corner click Refresh. When your network is found, click on it once and click Connect. Intel® PROset will ask you to create a profile. Click Yes and input your network and security information into the profile. When you are done, click Finish.
How do I connect to my Network at Login with my WLAN?
You will need to enable the Single Sign On (SSO) feature of Intel® PROSet. Go to the Control Panel and choose Add/Remove Programs. Find Intel® PROSet and click Change/Remove. When the window opens, select Modify. Go to Tools > Administrative Tools > Single Sign On. Open Intel® PROSet and configure your settings.

Is there an online version of the operating instructions and/or reference manual?
You will find a copy of the reference manual if you go to Start > All Programs > Panasonic > Online Manuals. You can find both the operating instructions and reference manual by visiting the Download Center.

How can I determine a Toughbook mobile computer's series/generation?
There are several series of the CF-29 Toughbooks. The specific series can be determined by the first few characters of the model number.

How can I determine a Toughbook mobile computer's full model number and serial number?
This information is located on a bar-code label on the bottom of the Toughbook.

The full model number starts with CF-29, followed by several other characters (e.g., CF-29NTQGZBM). The serial number is a string of 10 characters: One number, followed by four letters, followed by five numbers (e.g., 1ABCD12345).

This information can also be found in the BIOS Setup Utility (See BIOS section).
Operating Systems/Drivers
How do I install / update drivers on my Toughbook?
All drivers are available for download by following the link below. All the files on this site are self-extracting. After downloading, run the file to extract its contents to your hard drive.

Find the complete model number on the bottom of your laptop (e.g., CF-29XXXXXXX) and locate the correct driver by following the link below. Once you've downloaded the correct driver, extract the file to a new folder and go to Device Manager. You will need to manually update the 'PS2 compatible mouse' to the touchpad/touchscreen driver. Follow the instructions above for installing drivers.

Reinstalling the Original Operating System
How do I reinstall the operating system?
To reinstall your operating system, you must have a CD drive in your multimedia pocket or an external Panasonic USB CD drive. When the laptop is first powered on, the Panasonic name appears in white lettering with the phrase 'Press F2 to enter Setup' directly below it.

When this phrase appears on the screen, immediately press F2 on your keyboard. Put the Panasonic recovery CD in your drive and use the arrow keys to move to the Boot tab. Change the order of boot so the CD drive boots first. To do this, highlight the CD drive and press F6 until CD drive is No.1. Press F10 to save your changes, exit and follow the instructions when your CD starts running.
Technical Specifications
How can I view my PC information?
Specific system information (CPU, BIOS, RAM, ports, etc.) can be found in the DMI (Desktop Management Viewer) Application. To access the DMI Viewer Application, click Start > Programs > Panasonic > DMI Viewer. If you do not have this application installed on your Toughbook, it can be downloaded from the Download Center.

What type of network card is installed in the CF-29 Toughbook and what speed will it support?
This depends on the specific model number:

Technical Specifications
How do I toggle the display between the Toughbook's LCD and an external monitor/projector?
Pressing FN and F3 at the same time will toggle the Toughbook's display between the Toughbook's LCD, the external monitor/projector and both simultaneously.

If the LCD does not display properly or there is a 'Video Controller' showing with an error in the Device Manager, install /re-install the Video Driver. Download the appropriate Video Driver from Panasonic's website. Extract the contents of the file, then run the Setup file (accept all default settings). You may need to restart the Toughbook.
My mouse is erratic. What do I do?
Many times a customer may say that their cursor is jumping all over the screen, even though they do not have an external wheel mouse plugged in. The reason for occurrence is because your laptop has an integrated GPS module. You will need to run the file 'SKIPENUM,' which is found in the C:\UTIL\GPS\ folder.

If the GPS module is not integrated, you should contact the manufacturer of the GPS module for a similar patch.
I installed an external mouse, and my touchpad and/or my doesn't work anymore.
      What do I do?

Update the mouse driver back to the touchpad/touchscreen driver. Follow the instructions above for updating drivers.
Is my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive bootable?
