If you are using a GPS module that is not integrated, you should contact the manufacturer of the GPS module for a similar patch.

Is GOBI an acronym? If so, what does it stand for?
No, Gobi is a trademark name by Qualcomm. It stands for Global Mobile Internet.
Will there be a retrofit for any older models?
There is no plan to offer Gobi on older models.
How can administrative rights be locked down to comply with corporate IT security guidelines?
We are in the process of developing options for compliance with IT security policies.
Will Panasonic ensure that LTE, WiMax and HSUPA are all compatible?
As the above technologies are all different, Panasonic would not be able to ensure compatibility between them. Panasonic Toughbook laptops with Gobi will support HSUPA. Panasonic will evaluate other new technologies as the cellular technology and module vendors announce their commercial availability.
Will Gobi customers experience faster speeds or any other benefits beyond carrier selection flexibility?
Gobi will support the latest performance level of each carrier. At this moment, it is EV-DO Rev. A for Sprint and Verizon Wireless and HSPA 3.6 for AT&T. Gobi will also support HSPA 7.2 if and when AT&T's network is upgraded to 7.2.
I am confused by certification dates, launch dates - very simply when can I order and receive units with Gobi?

Launch date is the date you can order. Commercial Availability is the date we can deliver units with Gobi.
Will the first version of the Gobi chip set currently being installed in 19's and 30's last forever or at least 3 years?

The life cycle of Gobi will be determined by Qualcomm. That said, Gobi will be supported by Panasonic according to the standard Toughbook warranty and spare parts policy. According to Qualcomm, there will be future Gobi modules to accommodate enhancements in the carriers' networks.
If I do not want a Gobi chip - are there alternatives?
It is Panasonic's plan to embed Gobi modules into all new models. Panasonic is not planning for an alternate module.
Please explain why launch dates vary between carriers?
Each carrier uses a different process to test embedded laptops. Even when Panasonic submits the test units to all three carriers on the same day, most likely the technical acceptance dates for each carrier will be different.
Can I use Gobi to switch to another carrier even if I don't have a contract yet with that carrier?
The CSA will load the carrier image of another carrier even if you don't have a contract. When you initiate the new connection manager, it will ask you to set up an account in order to be connected to the network.

You will need to have a valid contract for each carrier you have selected with CSA. It can be one or more than one, depending on your business needs.

Does having a Gobi radio enable GPS in my Toughbook laptop? If so, how accurate is it?
The Gobi module does include a native GPS capability. At this time, Panasonic has chosen not to use this GPS function. In the Toughbook CF-19 and CF-30, Panasonic is using a separate GPS module that provides highly accurate positioning data.
How does the price of a Gobi radio compare with the Novatel or Sierra modules I have been buying?
Gobi module prices, when installed in the factory, in most cases will be less than the previous CDMA or GSM modules.
Can I use a Gobi radio on the T-Mobile network?
According to Qualcomm, Gobi is not certified on T-Mobile in the US. However, Gobi is certified on T-Mobile in Europe.
Is Gobi currently compatible, or will it be, with LTE, WiMax, or other 4G technologies?
Gobi will not support 4G technologies, which may include LTE and WiMax.
Is Gobi backwards compatible if I am in an area without 3G?
Yes, Gobi will support 2G services in both CDMA and GSM networks, depending on which carrier has been selected.
