Sacramento Building Case Study
Inspectors for Sacramento’s Code Enforcement and Dangerous Building Division work all hours and in all kinds of weather conditions, from 115°F days to freezing cold nights. Inspectors would spend up to an hour and a half each morning sorting and scheduling work orders, and planning routes. At the end of the day, the inspectors returned to the office and spent another hour or more entering the information from their paper forms into the division’s database.
By switching to Toughbook mobile computers, the inspectors’ efficiency increased enormously. Toughbook rugged laptops with wireless capabilities allowed inspectors to access information from the office in real time while in the field. Using Toughbook solutions with daylight viewable touchscreens, most of the work—including data entry—was quickly and accurately completed while still on-site, so very little office work was required before going home at the end of the day. Jack McDonald, of the Sacramento Dangerous Building Division, stated that the Toughbook solution has been “a stellar performer.”
