What operating systems can I install on my Toughbook?
The CF-18 Digitizer models support Windows XP Tablet Edition. The CF-18 Touchscreen models support Windows XP or Windows 2000. Drivers are available for download at the Download Center.
What operating systems are available preinstalled on the CF-18?
Current models of the CF-18 Toughbook PCs are preinstalled with Windows XP Professional SP2 (Touchscreen models) or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 (Digitizer models). Previous models of the CF-18 came preinstalled with Windows XP Professional SP1, Windows 2000 Professional (Touchscreen models) or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition (Digitizer models). How do I install / update drivers on my Toughbook?
All drivers are available for download from the Download Center. All the files on this site are self-extracting. After downloading, run the file to extract its contents to your hard drive.
After extracting, there are generally two ways to install the drivers.
1. Run the setup file.
2. Perform an Update Driver on a device in the Device Manager and point to the folder that contains the extracted driver.
How do I install / update drivers if there is no setup program included with the downloaded driver file?
For Windows XP / Windows XP Tablet:
Click Start > Run.
Type in devmgmt.msc and click OK to get to the Device Manager.
Right-click on the desired device and click “Update Driver.”
If asked to connect to the Internet, select “No, not at this time” and click Next.
Select “Install from a list or specific location” and click Next.
Select “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install” and click Next.
If asked for a device type, select the appropriate type and select Next.
(For a modem, select “modems”; for sound, select “Sound, video and game controllers”; for hotkey, select “System devices”; for LAN or WLAN, select “Network Adapters”; etc.)
Click “Have Disk” then click “Browse.”
Browse to the location of the un-zipped driver files.
Click “Open” then click OK and click Next.
If you get a Microsoft warning, select “Yes, Continue anyway.”
You may need to restart the computer for the device to work properly.

For Windows 2000:
Click Start > Run.
Type in devmgmt.msc and click OK to get to the Device Manager.
Right-click the desired device and click Properties.
On the Driver Tab, click “Update Driver” then click Next.
Select “Display a List of the known drivers…” then click Next.
If asked for a device type, select the appropriate type and select Next.
(For a modem, select “modems”; for sound, select “Sound, video and game controllers”; for hotkey, select “System devices”; for LAN or WLAN, select “Network Adapters”; etc.)
Click “Have Disk” then click “Browse.”
Browse to the location of the un-zipped driver files.
Click “Open” then click OK and click Next.
If you get a Microsoft warning, select “Yes, Continue anyway.”
You may need to restart the computer for the device to work properly.
Video Driver:
If the LCD does not display properly or there is a “Video Controller” showing with an error in the Device Manager, install/re-install the Video Driver. Download the appropriate Video Driver from the Panasonic website. Extract the contents of the file and run the Setup file (accept all default settings). You may need to restart the Toughbook.

Sound Driver:
If there is no sound or there is a “Multimedia Audio Controller” showing with an error in the Device Manager, install/re-install the Sound Driver. Download the appropriate Sound Driver from the Panasonic website. Extract the contents of the file and perform an Update Driver on the ????. You may need to restart the Toughbook.

Touchscreen Driver (Touchscreen models only):
If the Touchscreen does not respond at all, install/re-install the Touchpad/Touchscreen Driver. Download the appropriate Touchpad/Touchscreen Driver from Panasonic’s website. Extract the contents of the file and perform an Update Driver on the PS/2 Compatible Mouse (Listed under Mice and Other Pointing Devices). You may need to restart the Toughbook.

Chipset (OS INF File) Driver:
If there are several devices showing with errors in the Device Manager (Base System Device, USB Controller, PCI Device, etc), install/re-install the Chipset (OS INF File) Driver. Download the appropriate Chipset (OS INF File) Driver from the Panasonic website. Extract the contents of the file then run the Setup file (accept all default settings). You may need to restart the Toughbook.
