Toughbook® mobile computers are designed to meet and exceed a variety of standards for performance, durability and environmental impact. Assuring compliance with many standards requires substantial resources at Panasonic research and development, testing, and quality assurance facilities. This section explains some of the major standards that every Toughbook computer is expected to exceed.

Military Standards (MIL-STD)

Toughbook fully-rugged computers and the ultra-mobile-rugged Toughbook U1 are the first portable computers to be MIL-STD-810G certified for 6-foot drops1, shocks, altitude, vibration, dust, sand, rain and extreme temperature resistance. Fully-rugged models are certified for MIL-STD-461F electromagnetic interference and compatibility.

Ingress Protection (IP65)

Toughbook fully-rugged and ultra-mobile-rugged computers are IP65 certified1 for protection against dust and water.

Underwriters Laboratories (UL 1604)

Operating a computer can be dangerous in potentially explosive environments. Toughbook mobile computers comply with UL 1604 (Electrical Equipment for Use in Class I, Division 2, Groups, A, B, C and D) by delivering safe, reliable mobile computing solutions for spark-free use.

ENERGY STAR

Panasonic is one of more than 7,000 ENERGY STAR partners committed to improving the energy efficiency of products, homes and businesses. ENERGY STAR-compliant Toughbook mobile computers use advanced circuitry that consumes 81 percent less energy than conventional circuitry.

EPEAT

Panasonic Toughbook® mobile computers have received Gold and Silver ratings by an environmental impact scoring system known as Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT).

ISO Certification

Panasonic Toughbook products are compliant with all International Organization for Standardization (ISO) rules dealing with reducing energy use, limiting waste and increasing recycling.

RoHS Compliance

Since 2006, Toughbook mobile computers have been compliant with one of the most rigid directives, the European Union's Restriction on Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS), which greatly limits the use of lead, mercury, cadmium and other dangerous materials in electronics.

Section 508 Compliance

Panasonic Toughbook computers are Section 508 compliant, ensuring that users with disabilities have access to information technology anywhere, anytime.

Wireless Certifications

Panasonic Toughbook® ultra-mobile-rugged computers are independently tested and certified for interoperability with all products participating in the Cisco® Compatible Extensions (CCX) program. Cisco certification assures Toughbook mobile computers are able to leverage Cisco Unified Wireless Network capabilities as well as the latest innovations offered by Cisco's technology partners.

Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) Certification

To assure outstanding wireless connectivity, Panasonic Toughbook® mobile computers are certified by the leading wireless carriers.

1 Tested by a national independent third party test lab following MIL-STD-810G Method 516.6 Procedure IV for transit drop test and IEC 60529 Sections 13.4, 13.6.2, 14.2.5 and 14.3 for IP65.
