Panasonic is working to develop a set of free development tools that will deliver unprecedented device control to manage security, deployments and a host of features. The Toughpad™ tablet A1 has wireless access via AT&T™, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE data networks and Sprint’s WiMax network. At this time, there are two configurations available: a Wi-Fi-only model and Wi-Fi with broadband model. Voice support and Gobi from QUALCOMM is not available in the market at this time. More information about our wireless carriers will be available in early 2012.
Yes, the Toughpad A1 tablet is unique in the market because it is one of the few tablets to offer an integrated GPS module, which means the tablet has a faster response time and greater accuracy up to three meters.
Panasonic builds all its Toughbook® computers and Toughpad tablets to the highest standards and aims to exceed the MIL-STD-810G requirement, including 4-foot drop testing and IP65 protection against water and dust. Actual results are pending third-party testing. UL1604, 461F for EMI, and salt water resistance are under consideration based on requirements.
The sunlight-viewable display of the Toughpad™ A1 tablet is direct-bonded with anti-glare and anti-reflective treatments for superior 500-nit outdoor usability. This capacitive, multi-touch display can be used with fingers or the digital stylus (included). The magnetic tip in the stylus activates the WACOM digitizer when it touches the screen and deactivates the multi-touch for true digital signature capture and handwriting. The display is made of a heat-treated hardened glass designed for high impacts, and the edges of the tablet are protected by an elastomer to shield both the touch screen and the LCD inside the device.
The Toughpad A1 tablet uses a 35Wh serviceable battery that offers up to 10 hours of continuous operation time. The estimate is based on a 100-nit brightness setting with the Wi-Fi setting on. The back cover can be removed with a screwdriver to service the battery. The charge time is approximately three hours, and the battery can be charged via an AC adapter or a multi-charger available from Lind Electronics in summer 2012.
The Toughpad A1 tablet is the only Android™-based device to be FIPS 140-2 compliant for the government and DoD, as well as HIPPA-ready for healthcare. Panasonic’s unique implementation of the Android platform enables many security features like proxy, root protection, and enhanced VPN and hardware-based encryption. The Toughpad is also equipped with a series of low-level device controls for Mobile Device Management (MDM) software, which allows the computer to be controlled and highly secured by a network administrator to disable functions like Wi-Fi and camera, and to restrict downloads. A steel-reinforced slot for a Kensington cable lock provides added physical security. Additional details about security will be available in summer 2012.
Mobile Device Management (MDM) software provides low-level device controls designed specifically for the Toughpad™ tablet to manage one or many devices in the field. MDM solution providers give IT administrators enterprise-class support to manage hundreds of functions like over-the-air updates, security policies, app and certificate distribution, multi-user profile management, system lockdown and more. All of these functions can only be found on an enterprise-class tablet such as the Toughpad tablet.

The unique chip architecture of the Toughpad features a third core dedicated to security, providing a high level of tampering protection, while freeing up the CPU for other tasks.
