I understand that the CDC team must consist of three members, however my question is: during the preliminary and final challenges, can our school take a few more students to observe?
No more than five (5) students who are not a part of a team but whose school is participating in the CDC are permitted to attend the preliminary competition. During the preliminary competition, these students will be permitted to support their school's Team but will not be allowed to observe performances by other Teams. During the final competition, performances by all Teams will be open to the public.
Is there a restriction on what grade the students are from. Do all team members have to be from one grade level or can students be from all four hs grade levels to participate?
All four high school grade levels can participate (9-12). The 3 team members do not have to come from the same grade.
I know that only 3 students can participate in the challenge, but can more than 3 students work on the design with the understanding that only 3 students with represent the team at the actual competition?
It is ok for the 3 students to seek guidance from their advisors. However, we discourage students from working with other classmates who are not a part of the competition and adults other than their advisors to assist in creating their device. We would like the ideas in developing a robotic device to be the students and not someone else.
After having our inner school competitions where each team kept their own logbook, how should the winners transfer their information to the official CDC logbook?
Written info should be transcribed by pen not photocopied. There will be no penalty for transcribing.
The drawings can be transferred provided that they reference where the drawings came from and who
drew it. Example: After a photocopy of a drawing is pasted in the official logbook, below it, reference
that "Figure X: From School Project XXX Engineering logbook; drawn by Joe Smith, Oct 2009".
I have some older Brown logbooks. Can I use these for my in-school preliminary competition and then submit it instead of the Blue book you supplied this year. This way we could save time transcribing all of the entries.
You can use the Brown books for your in-school competition, but you cannot submit the Brown books for the CDC competition. We will only accept the Blue books. You will have to transcribe all materials from the Brown book to the Blue book.
Is the control box for the device included in the 1’x1’x1.5’ size restrictions or is that only for the actual device itself?
No, the control box is not considered part of the device, so it is not included in the 1" x 1" x 1.5" size restriction.
