In 1991, Panasonic in partnership with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) first introduced the Creative Design Challenge (CDC), a premier science and technology competition where teams of New Jersey high school students test their engineering and technical skills.
In this competition, students are challenged to create a robotic device that can maneuver within an obstacle course designed by NJIT interns. In addition to the Preliminary and Final Challenges, student teams are required to keep a detailed engineering logbook, make an oral presentation about their project, and submit a written report. Panasonic and NJIT staff and volunteers judge all aspects of the Challenge.
Winning teams are awarded prizes of Panasonic products, as well as scholarships to be used exclusively for college expenses. To date, Panasonic has awarded over $650k in scholarships.
The CDC Preliminary Challenge is held at Panasonic headquarters in Secaucus, NJ and the Finals Competition is held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ.
