of public interest groups and individuals, some of whom
historically have been left out of the Information Age,
including the elderly, minorities, low income groups and
people with disabilities. Membership in the Alliance is
open to individuals and nonprofit users of information
services and communication technologies who support the
goals of the Alliance.
For 3 years, Panasonic has supported APT by participating
at their annual policy forum and the Susan G. Hadden
Pioneer Awards luncheon.
Ayuda
for the Arts
Alliance for Young Urban
Design and the Arts (AYUDA for the Arts) was created in
2001 to provide educational opportunities to financially
disadvantaged youth in metropolitan areas, initially New
York City. The organization concentrates on fostering
the emergence of new talent from urban areas who could
best benefit from the financial and guiding assistance
of the organization.
AYUDA's mission is 1)
to offer undergraduate scholarships to students of design
and the arts from urban communities 2) to partner young
designers and artists with professionals in their respective
industries in order to receive mentorship opportunities
3) to advance public interest in the fields of education
for design and the arts.
In 2005, Panasonic awarded
ten students $1,000 scholarships. The skills of the students
ranged from illustration and graphic design to photography,
painting and music. The students were selected by evaluating
their talent, current academic status, financial nerd,
and endorsement of teachers and advisors. Panasonic has
also supported AYUDA through their annual fundraising
event "A Fashionable Taste of New York".

with the New Jersey Nets Corporate Education Program for
10 years. Tickets are donated for the New Jersey Nets
home games on behalf of Panasonic, to local schools and
non-profit organizations. The recipients use the tickets

New Jersey SEEDS provides
high achieving inner-city students from low-income families

extra classes, tutoring and workshops on weekends and
throughout the summer. The students upon reaching the
9th grade are placed in private, independent day and boarding
schools. Throughout the entire process, NJ SEEDS continues
to support them with counseling, college advising and
summer job opportunities. In addition, NJ SEEDS continues
to mentor alumni throughout their college and graduate
school years. Approximately 98% of NJ SEEDS participants
go onto college. A recent student was named a Rhodes Scholar.
