Since 2000, Panasonic has supported the Clean Ocean Action "Beach Sweeps" event. Started in 1985 at Sandy Hook Beach, New Jersey with only 75 volunteers, the bi-annual event now includes sites at beaches, rivers, lakes and streams across the state.

Panasonic employees have joined over 6,600 volunteers who collect and categorize approximately 92,000 pounds (45.6 tons) of debris and litter scattered across Jersey shores. Plastics and foam make up over 80% of the waste collected that can be lethal for birds, sea turtles, whales, and dolphins when ingested or when the animals become entangled.

The data collected provides important information about the type of beach debris found on New Jersey’s shores. It also helps to identify and monitor pollution trends and assist lawmakers in writing strong and enforceable laws to make NJ's beaches litter free.
