Women Work! The National Network for Women's Employment is a national non-profit organization that advocates for women's economic security through policies, programs and partnerships. The organization was established in 1978. Over the years, Women Work! programs have helped more than 10 million women in transition (low income, older, displaced homemakers and single parent) to gain the skills to effectively and successfully compete in the workplace.
Women Work! provides services to more than 1,000 affiliate programs nationwide. These programs offer counseling, workshops, skills training and job assistance to approximately 400,000 women each year throughout the United States.
Panasonic partnered with Women Work and provided funds to help implement a program entitled "Getting IT Across - The Counselors Guide for Recruiting Women to Information Technology Careers (GITA)" at the Hispanic Women's Resource Center in Union City, New Jersey.
The Hispanic Women's Center has been operating since 1985 to provide counseling, life skills development, job preparation and training to Hispanic women in the community. The program includes IT basics, counseling strategies, job profiles and resources to help women make informed decisions about choosing a career in the IT sector.
The IT program guide is translated into Spanish to assist clients as they learn English as a second language. The project has increased the Center’s ability to recruit, train and place Hispanic women in IT positions.
Women Work! was featured in a public service announcement that aired on the Panasonic Astrovision screen in New York Times Square to expose the organization and their programs to a larger audience.
