The mission of the York Street Project is to weave innovative programs that shelter, feed, educate and promote the healing and independence of persons in need, especially women and their children.
The York Street Project incorporates four interrelated yet separate programs:
The Nurturing Place is a daycare and childhood development center for homeless and low-income children aged four months to six years whose mothers reside in St. Joseph's Home or attend Kenmare High School.
St. Joseph's Home provides a homeless woman and her child/children with 18 months of supportive, communal living as she works to improve her life and attain permanent, affordable housing.
Kenmare High School is a fully accredited alternative high school providing women ages 17-35 a second chance to earn a diploma while their children are cared for at The Nurturing Place.
St. Mary's Residence offers safe affordable housing for single working women with limited income. The residence provides communal living services for each woman allowing her time to concentrate on social skills and job training leading to a more productive life.
Panasonic continues to support the efforts of the York Street Project and has provided them with general operating funds and the installation of a multi-line telephone system.
York Street residents have also been the recipients of toys and other items donated during the holidays through the generosity of employees and the company’s Toys for Kids program.
