What is "DualDisc"?
"DualDisc" is a new multi-media, two-sided disc product established by the music industry that contains DVD material on one side and digital audio material on the other. A DualDisc is similar in size to a DVD/CD. The DVD side of a DualDisc contains DVD-Video or DVD-Audio content, such as 5.1 channel surround sound, artist interviews, etc., whereas the audio side of the disc contains digital audio content that does NOT meet the technical specifications of the Compact Disc Digital Audio format.
Will a DualDisc play in Panasonic DVD players?
Since the DVD side of a DualDisc complies with DVD forum standards, it will play in most Panasonic DVD players with some exceptions. The digital audio side of a dual disc may not always play in Panasonic DVD players since it does NOT meet Compact Disc Digital Audio specifications. Below is a detailed list of DualDisc compatibility issues with Panasonic DVD players:
- Panasonic standard DVD players, DVD changers, DVD recorders, portable DVD players, TV/DVD combos, DVD/VCR combos, DVD mini systems, DVD micro systems, DVD home theater systems, and DVD PC drives (DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM): The DVD content side of a DualDisc will play in these front or top-loading disc tray players. To play back DVD-Audio content, a DVD-Audio compatible Panasonic DVD player is required. However, since the digital audio content side of the DualDisc does NOT meet Compact Disc Digital Audio specifications, it may or may not play back in these players.
- Panasonic DVD players for the car and other slot-loading DVD players: If a DualDisc is used in any of these players, there is a chance that the mechanical device used to pull the disc in could scratch or scrape the DVD side of the DualDisc. Also, if inserted, the DualDisc could get stuck and might not be able to be ejected.
