The palm trees were swaying to the beat and the ocean was keeping time with the turntables. There was more than humidity in the air when we joined the first M3 Music Summit.
Florida, where sunshine has its namesake - got a lesson in bringing the heat
Florida, land of the butterfly ballot - got a lesson in voter confidence.
At the end of this five day multimedia event, it was unanimous: DJ culture still has the magic touch and Technics is the pre-eminent bringer of the noise.
Kick it off at the beginning - the beginning of DJ culture. Six turntables in the lobby, the big six, the original six, the six that led the way and started the revolution, like SP-10, SL-1100, SL-1200 and, well, you know what we're talking about. And so did the crowds oohing and aahing and asking to buy. But you can't buy a legend.
At the Technics Green Room lounge, we set up the SL-DZ1200 digital turntable - set it up and set it loose - and backstage became the hottest ticket in town. Everyone who's anyone was there - spinning, listening and checking out the scene. It redefined VIP:
Very Important Party!
Not to drop names, but come on. Those are the big ones. And yeah, at birth, everyone gets a name; but in the world of DJs ability creates a reputation.
And there's no denying, put the right hand on the right turntable and what was once an innocent pool party is suddenly a notorious scene.
Like the night Technics took over the Sunset Sessions. Sure, we'd been there every night, but on a certain Monday evening in February, we took it to the next level.
Yeah. Night after night, the whole scene had to be seen AND heard.
Miami knows. Now you know too.
The Legend Continues...
