KWN Global "ONLINE" Summit 2020

2020 has been a difficult year, due to the appearance and pandemic spread of a novel coronavirus. Even though the turmoil caused by this coronavirus is still unresolved, Panasonic's Kid Witness News (KWN) decided to go ahead with its global event. This year was the first online event in KWN history as we welcomed the winning schools from each country.

The children in the winning KWN team from Japan will participate in the event as hosts, and other countries’ teams will participate from their own countries via remote online broadcasts. Panasonic Center Tokyo will serve as the coordinating point for the distribution of the live broadcast.

Panasonic Center Tokyo served as the coordinating point for the distribution of the live broadcast. This was two days of "fun learning" for the children! Based on the experiences they have already had while creating their winning videos, they worked together across country boundaries to show the world their visions of a better future.

Activity Overview

Icebreakers & Learning SDGs

Study the "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" proposed by the United Nations as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. A quiz format community-building exercise served as a fun way to learn about this subject.

Animated video workshop

This was a video production workshop in which the participants made short claymation videos about the first activity. Yuichi Ito, who is a judge in the KWN Global Contest, was the instructor for this activity. The wonderful video was created that he made in collaboration with the participating children.

Discussion about entry videos

Discussion of the videos created by the participating schools. This brought together the videos of friends from many countries, all with different cultures, ways of thinking, and ways of expressing ideas. What did these children think and how do they feel about these productions created by children from other countries?
