The history of Panasonic goes back to when Konosuke Matsushita founded Matsushita Electric Housewares Manufacturing Works in 1918. See how the company evolved and developed into one of the leading electronics companies in the world today.

History of Panasonic Malaysia

When Matsushita Electric Company (Malaysia) Bhd (MELCOM) was first set up as a manufacturing company in 3 September 1965, 10% of equity was held by Hagemeyer Trading Company. In an undocumented agreement with founder Matsushita, Hagemeyer was also given the right to act as the sole agent of National products for the next 10 years.
And so, it was only a decade later, that Matsushita Sales & Service Sdn. Bhd. (MASCO) was established on 29 March 1976 – as a joint venture between MELCOM and Hagemeyer – to distribute MELCOM’s products. In 1992 the company was renamed to National Panasonic Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (NPM). Eleven years later on 1 October 2003 – as part of a global brand unification exercise – it underwent another name change, to what is now known as Panasonic Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (PM).
Panasonic Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. is the sales, service and marketing company for the Panasonic brand of electrical and electronic products manufactured by the Panasonic Group of Companies. Over the years, our portfolio has broadened considerably, and presently includes a wide range of home appliances, business systems, professional broadcasting solutions, and telecommunications.
