Evolution of the Music Environment
Evolving to More Convenient, Higher-Quality Audio
Together with the passing of time, the mainstream of music data has evolved from analogue to digital. With the recent debut of high-resolution audio, it has become possible to enjoy music at home with the same level quality as a master sound source.
Music expression has changed greatly due to the reproduction performance of today's audio systems, which need to cope with the vast quantity of music data in high-resolution sound sources. Panasonic's PMX Series and the HD Series feature a variety of unique technologies for high-resolution playback, enabling them to provide a rich acoustic field.
What Is High-Resolution Sound?
High-Resolution Sound Surpasses CD Sound Quality
Because high-resolution sound contains much more sound data than a CD, sounds, moods and acoustic nuances that were previously inaudible can be beautifully reproduced.
CD
Since CD recording partially cuts the sound data, the data is reduced for easier handling, but the sound quality suffers.
High-Resolution Sound
High-resolution sound sources record almost the same level of data as the master sound source of a recording studio, so the sound quality is much higher than that of a CD.
The Difference Between a CD Data and a High-Resolution Data
A high-resolution sound source finely divides the data to create a waveform that is close to the original (analogue) sound source.
Sampling frequency
The higher the frequency, the higher the range of sound reproduction. There is a difference of approximately 2 times between a sampling frequency of 48 kHz (CD) and 96 kHz (Hi-Res)
Quantization bit rate
The higher the bit rate, the finer the sound reproduction. Compared to 16-bit (CD), 24-bit (Hi-Res) provide sound that is 256 times as fine.
Typical High-Resolution Formats
Typical high-resolution specifications are 96-kHz/24-bit and 192-kHz/24-bit, and formats include FLAC, AIFF, and WAV.
