Panasonic and UNESCO Jointly Promote World Heritage Conservation in Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam - Panasonic Vietnam and UNESCO jointly hold an integrated cultural and education event for over 200 students and teachers from 10 schools at UNESCO World Heritage Site- Thang Long Imperial Citadel on 18 October 2014. Together with a Photo exhibition “Discover Wonder of World Heritage”, the UNESCO World Heritage Eco Learning Program was implemented in line with an eco technology workshop, Eco Picture Diary and Kid Witness News award ceremony. Throughout all activities, Panasonic promoted the beauty and significance of the World Heritages sites, induced love on historical, natural and cultural value in youngster and encouraged them to take their own initiatives with eco conscious technology to protect environment and world heritage.

The exhibition, an initiative of UNESCO’s Hanoi Office with Panasonic’s sponsorship aims to promote the unique beauty of Vietnam’s eight heritage sites to the general public and is constructed with a flexible structure, enabling it to be folded, transported and set up at other location easily. After the one week exhibition at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, the exhibition will be displayed to the public at all heritage sites in Vietnam.

The attendants of the event also learned more about Panasonic’s eco-friendly products that have helped to preserve other UNESCO heritage sites as practical example of activities under Panasonic Asia Pacific’s Eco Declaration for ‘Live Your Best. As part of the event, Panasonic supported lighting system of Kinh Thien palace relic in Thang Long Imperial Citadel with 60 Panasonic LED light bulbs which cut down half energy consumption and save time for management staff with up to 10 times longer lifetime extended.

Students taking part in the ceremony were given a tour in Thang Long Imperial Citadel. With an explanation from tour guides, they learned about the history of the ancient Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. In addition, they joined in an interactive eco learning session to understand more about the importance of conserving the World Heritage and the significance of global environmental preservation.

Finally, an “Eco technology” workshop was consecutively conducted for 100 students. Guided by Panasonic employees, the students took turns assembling hybrid cars powered by solar batteries; wind cars and making dry battery, so that they can gain hands-on experience of technologies in energy creation and storage.

After experiencing the benefits of eco technology, students joined in Vietnam’s local Kid Witness News (KWN) award ceremony and were impressed by seven short movies created by same-age students on environment and communication theme in the country. Celebrating its 10 year anniversary in Vietnam, the KWN program continues providing unique opportunity for Vietnam’s young generation to freely express their opinion on topical issue of the society.
