How do our eyes recognize 3-Dimensional images?

The distance between the left and right eyes cause each eye to view an object from a slightly different angle. When the brain interprets these slightly different images, it naturally perceives a sense of depth and dimension. Panasonic’s FULL HD 3D system alternately displays images shot from slightly different angles to simulate how we perceive depth in nature.

3D 24p Cinema smoother

VIERA incorporates technology that analyzes picture information in both the preceding and succeeding frames, and creates a precise supplementary frame between them. This suppresses the jerky effect often seen in movies, so playback is smooth and natural looking. The distinctive tonal qualities and atmosphere of the movie are preserved, and you enjoy extremely lifelike 3D images.

2D - 3D Conversion*

Unique Panasonic technology converts 2D images into high-quality 3D images in real-time. The technology generates a detailed depth effect for each type of image, so the 3D effect is natural and realistic. Use VIERA to enjoy Blu-ray movies, DVD movies and even ordinary TV broadcasts in 3D. The Super Resolution function allows images that were converted from 2D to 3D to be displayed with great clarity. 3D images with crisp contours are also produced from 3D broadcasts using the side-by-side method.

Frame sequential technology

Panasonic uses Full-HD Frame Sequential technology to create its 3D images. Images recorded at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels for both the right-eye and the left-eye alternately flash on the screen at the ultra - high rate of 120 frames per second. When you view the screen through active-shutter glasses that open and close each lens in sync with the alternating images, you see breathtaking FULL HD 3D pictures with stunning power and realism.

Fast switching phosphor

Reformulating the phosphor materials has minimized afterglow and increased luminous efficiency. This reduces crosstalk noise and displays clear, detailed 3D images.

Light emitting process

This new VIERA process reduces crosstalk to provide an amazing 3D experience. The major change was to reverse the drive sequence as this reduces afterglow. The second change was to increase the speed of the drive sequence which caused an increased blanking interval. These changes have dramatically improved the clarity of 3D images.

Cross talk reduction technology

By accurately detecting the information for each of the right-eye and left-eye images, Panasonic is able to minimize double images. This results in clear, comfortable 3D viewing. It feels as though you’re totally immersed in the picture.

Lighter and brighter 3D eyewear

Panasonic made an exciting breakthrough with the introduction of the world's lightest*¹ 3D Eyewear, weighing only 26 g. The new models offer increased comfort for long-time viewing, and brighter 3D images. With an internal battery that charges in only two minutes*², the new 3D Eyewear is easier to use than ever before.

World's lightest at 26 g*¹

Slimming down the LCD lens thickness and revising the overall structure allowed us to cut about 30% of the total weight compared to our previous models. Our 2011 3D Eyewear gives you comfortable viewing even when watching for long periods.

Brightness increased during 3D viewing

In addition to raising the light transmissivity of the shutters by 10% over our previous model, the temple portions have been widened to block the entry of excessive light from the sides. This enables bright, crisp 3D viewing.

Quick charge from the TV (via USB)

When the battery is charged from VIERA TV's USB terminal, only 2 minutes of charging gives you about 3 hours of use. With 30 minutes of charging, you get about 25 hours of use. Now, you can spend less time charging the battery and more time watching the 3D images.

2D / 3D switching

The switching function is convenient when, for example, a group of people are watching 3D images and one person decides to take a break. When the switch is set to 2D, the images that you see with both eyes through the 3D Eyewear consist of the data for only a single eye's image. To watch 3D images again, you just flip the switch. This function gives you more flexible viewing options and ensures a comfortable viewing experience.

The precise timing control used for opening and closing the Panasonic 3D eyewear shutters ensures clear 3D images by eliminating the unwanted light leakage found in conventional 3D systems.
