Saint Lucia

The Pitons are spectacular twin volcanic spires (770 m and 743 m high) rising side by side on the 2,909-ha site that includes a geothermal field and hot springs. Coral reefs cover almost 60% of the site's marine area which is home to a diversity of sea life including 168 species of finfish. The dominant terrestrial vegetation ranges from tropical moist to subtropical wet forest, and provides habitat for a variety of bird species and wildlife. Among the 148 plant species recorded on Gros Piton and the 97 on Petit Piton and the linking ridge, there are eight rare tree species.
