Simien National Park

Massive erosion of the Ethiopian plateau has created one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. Millions of years have sculpted jagged mountain peaks, deep gorges, and sharp precipices dropping some 1,500 m. The Simien mountains are said to rival the Grand Canyon in scenic beauty. The mountains, the deep valleys to the north, east and south, and the rugged lowlands overlooked by the peaks and cliffs together comprise habitat for globally significant biodiversity including extremely rare and threatened animals such as the Gelada baboon, the Simien fox, and the Walia ibex, a goat found nowhere else in the world.
