Spain

Risco Caido is an archaeological site offering a combination of mesmerizing scenery, stirring skyscapes, rich biodiversity, and an intriguing cultural landscape. Located on Gran Canaria Island off the western African coast, the site features a prehistoric cave dwellings, temples, and granaries. They tell the story of the presence and extinction of a pre-Hispanic culture which evolved in island isolation for more than 1500 years. The archaeological record bears testimony to original populations from the Berber Maghreb. Among the ruins are two sacred temples where it is conjectured that the people held seasonal ceremonies in reverence to the stars and wonders of Mother Earth.
