CO2 Zero Showroom -Panasonic Center TOKYO Initiatives-

An excellent base for lifestyles

The Panasonic Group has created the environment vision "Panasonic GREEN IMPACT" to achieve both a better life and more sustainable global environment. The vision seeks to achieve "a better life" and "a sustainable global environment," while aiming to create a better, more comfortable society through clean energy.
As one example, Panasonic has been promoting businesses aiming for a sustainable society, and working globally to create zero-CO2 factories. These initiatives to reduce energy used and increase energy created have spread to showrooms, resulting in Panasonic Center TOKYO becoming Panasonic's first zero-CO2 showroom.

Zero CO2 in procured energy

  • A 100% shift to biomass-derived electricity means zero CO2 emissions from power usage
  • Carbon offsets of CO2 emissions accompanying district heating and cooling in the Tokyo Waterfront area using the CO2-Credit Scheme

Promoting energy saving

We are continually engaging in energy-saving activities, such as by adopting equipment that achieves this.

Using clean energy

We have a 5kW hydrogen fuel cell generator running for demonstrative purposes using hydrogen energy that will help us achieve carbon neutrality in the future.
(Running from 11:00 to 15:00, excluding closing days)
The electricity generated by this hydrogen fuel cell is used in the building's power system.

Biomass power generation

Power generated from combustion of waste plant matter such as wood chips and palm shells. This is a clean way of generating power based on the carbon neutral concept of creating energy without increasing CO2.

*Carbon neutral: Biomass generates CO2 when burned, but in the process of growing absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere, hence resulting in no net change to the amount of CO2.

Reforms to lower CO2 emissions by decreasing people's movements.

We are holding online events and workshops together with virtual viewing of showroom contents so that people can take part in activities of the Panasonic Center TOKYO without having to actually visit us. Active adoption of working from home for our staff has also lowered the need to commute to the Center. These initiatives have reduced use of public transportation, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions in society.
In the future our efforts will expand beyond reduction of CO2 emissions to effective use of resources and reduction of waste, stepping up communication as a zero-CO2 showroom through exhibitions, events, and seminars.

Panasonic Center Tokyo is certified by ISO14001 environmental management system.
