Panama - Panasonic Latin America (PANALAT) sponsors a project to improve education in Panama.
Titled the Pro-Escuelas Project, this program is an initiative of Panama's major daily newspaper, La Prensa, and aims to support public schools in rural and disadvantaged areas. The program focuses on teacher training, providing teachers with new tools to apply in the classroom, and training teachers through seminars such as "The use of the newspaper in the classroom", "Critical thinking", and "Psychopedagogy".
Panasonic has supported this project since 2006, and sponsors one of the 4 schools supported every year.
Since 2006, 513 teachers have received training, benefiting 20,884 students at 19 schools.
Panasonic is a very active sponsor because apart from sponsoring the seminars, it also visits the schools to talk with the teachers, assess the situation to be able to better meet the schools' needs, and interact with the students. Moreover, Panasonic has donated 5 libraries to some of the schools involved in the project.
Benefits for Panasonic include free PR and bonus ads in La Prensa, and in Aprendo, a children's newspaper issued by La Prensa.
Tree planting in Panama
Chilibre - On October 11, 2008, as part of the Global Eco Relay Campaign, employees of Panasonic Latin America in Panama, together with their families, planted 1,000 trees at the Environmental Center "El Chagres" located in Chilibre, 1 hour from Panama City. The environmental importance of this place lies in its proximity to the Panama Canal.
This activity aimed to achieve 3 goals: to actively contribute to society and the environment, to create environmental awareness, and to involve employees.
Apart from the tree planting, employees and their families had the opportunity to participate in some educational activities to help understand the importance of this event.
The event was organized together with "La Asociación Nacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza" (ANCON), an NPO working for the preservation of biodiversity and natural resources of Panama for the benefit of present and future generations.
