Panasonic provides emergency relief equipment, products, and funds to disaster-stricken regions and governments while encouraging our employees to participate in and donate to disaster relief.

Natural disasters and other calamities require multifaceted support.

Panasonic Group also donated additional funds totaling approximately 400 million yen, including 100 million yen in cash donations from international affiliates and the Panasonic Group Workers’ Unions Association, raised by employee fundraising in Japan and abroad.

Product donations: 580,000 batteries, 50,000 flashlights, 10,000 pocket radios, 4,000 solar lanterns, and a Life Innovation Container, alongside approx. 750 notebook computers loaned to NPOs (with a goal of 1,000), TVs, microwave ovens, and other appliances.

Relief from employee volunteering: Employees volunteered through the Corporate Volunteer Program of Keidanren’s 1% Club, the Rengo Relief Volunteers program, and the Rikuzentakata City Reconstruction Relief Volunteers program sponsored by School Aid Japan.

Other activities: To help raise the next generation, Panasonic provided support by managing the School Smile Support Project, the Panasonic Kids School Rope Jump, the Kitto Waraeru [Smiling for Sure] 2021 Production Committee, and the Disney Blu-ray Screenings, among other projects.

Product donations: 20 42” plasma TVs, 100 fans, and 200 extension cords (equivalent to 10 million yen) for shelter installation. Donated to the Niigata Prefectural Disaster Response Headquarters.

● April 2007: Relief for the Noto earthquake in Japan

Cash donations: 3 million yen from Matsushita Electric. 1.5 million to the Ishikawa Prefectural Community Chest. 1.5 million for disaster relief volunteer funds to the Central Community Chest of Japan.

● June 2006: Relief for those areas and people impacted by the Yogyakarta earthquake in Indonesia

Cash donations: 45.95 million yen in total from Matsushita Electric and Panasonic Asia-Pacific. Donated 10 million yen to Japan Platform, 10 million yen to the Japan Committee for UNICEF, 6.73 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society, and 19.22 million yen to other Red Cross organizations.
Product donations: 20,000 batteries, 500 flashlights, 2,000 radios, and 50 TVs from Indonesian Matsushita Electric Group companies.

● March 2006: Relief for the Southern Leyte landslide in the Philippines

Cash donations: 5 million yen (2.155 million pesos) from Matsushita Electric; Donated to Maasin Cathedral, Southern Leyte. 1.1 million yen (500,000 pesos) from Philippine Matsushita Group companies; Donated to the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development.

● October 2005: Relief for those areas and people impacted by the Kashmir earthquake in Pakistan

Cash donations: 48.55 million yen from the Matsushita Electric Group (including global employee fundraising and corporate matching). Donated to Japanese Red Cross Society. Also donated 3 million yen to Keidanren and 300,000 yen to the Kansai Economic Federation.

● August 2005: Relief for those areas and people impacted by Hurricane Katrina in the US

Cash donations: 1 million dollars (114 million yen) in total from the Matsushita Electric Group (including global employee fundraising and corporate matching). Donated 50% to the US Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund and 50% to the American Red Cross.  Also donated 2 million yen to Keidanren and 300,000 yen to the Kansai Economic Federation.

● March 2005: Relief for the Fukuoka earthquake in Japan

Cash donations: 2 million yen from Matsushita Electric. Donated to the Fukuoka Prefectural Disaster Response Headquarters.

● December 2004: Relief for the areas impacted by the Sumatra-Andaman (Indian Ocean) earthquake and tsunami

Cash and product donations: Equivalent to 169.38 million yen in total relief from the Matsushita Electric Group. 112.08 million yen in global employee fundraising and corporate matching. Donated to UNICEF Thailand. Also donated 20 million yen to Keidanren and 1 million yen to the Kansai Economic Federation. Donated 200,000 batteries, 20,000 flashlights, emergency rations, and other relief products equivalent to 36.3 million yen from companies throughout Asia.

● November 2004: Relief for the Chuetsu earthquake in Niigata Prefecture

Cash donations: 33 million yen from the Matsushita Electric Group. Donated 30 million yen to the Niigata Prefectural Disaster Response Headquarters. 3 million yen to Ojiya City.

● October 2004: Relief for Typhoon Tokage in Hyogo Prefecture

Product donations and more: 600 blankets, 2,000 batteries, 150 shovels, 150 pairs of rainboots, 90 wheelbarrows, and 50 hoses. Repaired flooded terminals. 50 weekend volunteers.

● July 2004: Relief for the heavy rains in Niigata Prefecture

Cash donations: 3 million yen from Matsushita Electric. Donated to the Niigata Prefectural Disaster Response Headquarters.

● July 2004: Relief for the heavy rains in Fukui Prefecture

Cash donations: 3 million yen from Matsushita Electric. Donated to the Fukui Prefectural Disaster Response Headquarters.

● December 2003: Relief for the Bam earthquake in Iran

Product donations: 9,000 flashlights and 120,000 batteries. Donated a total equivalent to 47,000 dollars (approx. 5.6 million yen)

● May 2003: Supported the fight against the SARS epidemic

Cash donations: 500,000 yen Donated to the Chinese Embassy. 500,000 yen to the Chinese Consulate.
Product donations: 580 fax machines and 20 electronic blackboards. Donated a total equivalent to 68.4 million yen.

● September 2001: Relief aid for those impacted by the September 11 attacks in the US

Cash donations: 2.1 million dollars (252 million yen) from the Matsushita Electric Group. Also donated 3 million yen to Keidanren and 150,000 yen to the Kansai Economic Federation.
Product donations: 1,000 headlamps, 1,000 flashlights, 5,000 batteries, 15 computers, and 300 vacuum cleaners. (total equivalent to 100,000 dollars) Employees also provided t-shirts, towels, toothbrushes, and soap.

● January 2001: Relief for the Gujarat earthquake in India

Cash donations: 14.82 million yen from employee fundraising. Also donated 300,000 yen to Keidanren and 100,000 yen to the Kansai Economic Federation.

● September 2000: Relief for the volcanic eruption on Miyake Island

Product donations: Donated 1,500 light fixtures (4.66 million yen) and 20 fax machines.

● March 2000: Relief for the volcanic eruption at Mount Usu in Hokkaido

Product donations: Wireless disaster prevention radios (equivalent to 37.14 million yen). Also donated 180 powerful lights and one washing machine.

● December 1999: Relief for the heavy rains in Venezuela

Cash donations: 6 million yen.
Product donations: 9,000 powerful lights and 18,000 batteries (equivalent to approx. 10,000 dollars).

● September 1999: Relief for the Jiji earthquake in Taiwan

Cash donations: 39.34 million yen, including employee fundraising.
Product donations: 300,000 batteries, 10,000 flashlights, 1,500 electric cookers, and 3,300 sound dampers (total equivalent to 30.03 million yen)

● August 1999: Relief for the Izmit earthquake in Turkey

Cash donations: 2.11 million yen via Keidanren.

● August 1998: Relief for the heavy rains in Tohoku

Product donations: Fax machines, copiers, and 4500 sheets of fax paper

● August 1998: Relief for the flooding in China

Cash donations: 350,000 yuan (approx. 6.3 million yen)

● January 1997: Relief for the heavy oil spill by the Russian tanker Nakhodka

Cash donations: 1.2 million yen to Fukui Prefecture. 1.5 million to Ishikawa Prefecture.
Product donations: 150 buckets, 270 oil drums, 30 hot cushions, 3,150 towels, masks, and more. 285 volunteers.

Cash donations: 300 million yen from the Matsushita Electric Group. Donated to the Prefectural Disaster Response Headquarters.
Product donations and more: 230,000 batteries, 50,000 flashlights, 10,000 radios, 2,000 home heaters, 200 wireless transceivers, and 200 washing machines. 3,000 volunteers.

Cash donations: 10 million yen. Donated to Embassy of the PRC in Japan.

Cash and product donations: 250,000 US dollars (approx. 30 million yen)

● July 1993: Relief for the Okushiri earthquake in Hokkaido

Product donations: Flashlights, batteries, 10 TVs, and other goods (equivalent to 1 million yen)

● July 1991: Relief for the Mount Pinatubo eruption in the Philippines

Cash donations: 2 million pesos (approx. 10 million yen). Donated to the Philippine government.

● June 1991: Relief for the Mount Unzen eruption in Japan

Product donations: Telephones, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, rice cookers, air conditioners, batteries, flashlights, and more (equivalent to 36.37 million yen)
