Young Change Makers +(YCM+)

What is Young Change Makers + programme ?

The Young Change Makers programme has gone from strength to strength since the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010. More than 200 members from over 100 countrieshave provided support to young athletes during Games time and have become role models in their own communities with the values of Olympism learned at the YOG. Aged between 18-25 when nominated by their respective NOCs to attend the YOG, these young leaders include former athletes, students, young sports professionals, and National Olympic Committee staff, and take initiative in activities on the themes such as Health & Active Living, Inclusion, Sustainability, and Peace & Development. An additional 83 Young Change-Makers have been nominated by their respective NOC ahead of the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018. The YCM+ goes one step further and invites all YCMs around the world to apply for funding to deliver their own projects leveraging the power of sport for a better world.

Mothusi Ramaabya, a Young Change Maker from Botswana implemented the project ‘I can’, to encourage people living with special needs and disability, and spread the message that it is possible to be anything that you want in life, regardless of whatever challenges they face and that they should not let it affect their future.

The successful YCM+ are invited to attend the International Olympic Committee's Youth Summit during which their voice is heard and they get the opportunity to engage and discuss issues that impact them with the IOC President. At the event in 2017, the IOC President said: "I'm often presented with statistics on a screen about youth engagement, but sitting face to face with you all and hearing your thoughts and opinions on the topics that matter to you is one of the best moments of my job. On behalf of the IOC, I want to thank you all for delivering such incredibly inspiring and diverse projects,.
