The Journey of Making India Stronger

The Journey of Making India Stronger

4 Decades. Countless innovations. 1 Goal - Making India Stronger.

Our journey in India has been about make in India, for India and the world. Since our inception in the country, we have provided solutions to create a better life for consumers in living spaces and a better world for enterprises and communities. Let’s take a walk down the memory lane…

August 15th, 1972, marked our first step in the journey of Making India Stronger. The nation was celebrating 25 years of Independence, while the Panasonic family had one more reason to celebrate- the pride of entering its new home, India. With two great leaders coming together, the Late Mr. Konosuke Matsushita, Founder, Panasonic and Late Mr. D.D. Lakhanpal, our first dry cell manufacturing plant was inaugurated, bringing high quality batteries devices in India. And with this, Panasonic initiated its journey of strengthening the nation through continuous innovation and high-quality products.

A decade later, in 1982, we amped up our operations and started manufacturing high quality carbon rods. Till date, we maintain our position as the sole manufacturer of high standard Carbon rods (used for battery majors) in India.

Soon, in 1988, the journey of adding flavour to your family time began by setting up small appliances' factory for rice cookers and mixers in Chennai. In 1990, we started the production of rice cookers, and today, over 10 million homes across 50 countries enjoy meals cooked with Panasonic rice-cookers that are manufactured in India.

In a move to make your life more comfortable, we brought in a complete range of household appliances such as ACs, washing machines, refrigerators, etc and B2B solutions like video conferencing, security systems and Toughbooks. The commitment to create a difference turned stronger with every innovation. We launched the first model ‘Eco Ideas’ factory in Jhajjar, which kick-started the manufacturing of ACs, washing machines and welding machines in India. And also exported our appliances manufactured in India to countries such as South Asia and Africa.

With the digital wave taking wings, we set up an R&D division - India Innovation Centre (IIC) in Bangalore, to further strength the nation’s journey to digitalization. Investing over INR 250 Crores into IIC, we have launched various intelligent solutions across industries such as Smart Factory solutions, Seekit, tracking device, ed tech solutions and much more.

We grew to harness every opportunity and pushed our limits with every challenge. In 2018, we further strengthened our appliance business and started manufacturing refrigerators in our plant in Jhajjar, Haryana, along with setting up an audio factory. To enable smooth connection and communication, we installed 40,000 telecom towers supported by Panasonic Lithium ion-batteries across the country.

And now, two decades into the 21st century, we are ready to usher India into the era of Connected Living with MirAIe – our AI and IoT based platform – along with a set of MirAIe-enabled home appliances, to help India meet the future.

At Panasonic, we are driven by a commitment to make a better life, a better world. And this journey of bringing a difference continues through constant innovation in India, for India and the world.
