Mangrove Restoration at Trapeang Sangkae: An Initiative of Panasonic Cambodia

Panasonic Cambodia staff recently teamed up with the local community of Trapeang Sangkae to conduct a Mangrove Tree Planting Activity as part of the Company's ECO RELAY initiative. The activity took place on March 8, 2024, in Kampot Province to restore and protect the vital mangrove forests along Cambodia’s southern coastline. Mangrove trees play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems by absorbing carbon dioxide, protecting shorelines from floods and soil erosion, and acting as a nursery for marine life.

The Trapeang Sangkae community recognizes the importance of mangroves in mitigating the impacts of climate change. As sea levels rise and storms become more intense, these mangroves serve as a natural defense, reducing the vulnerability of coastal communities.

By restoring and conserving these coastal ecosystems, mangroves provide multiple benefits. They act as natural barriers against waves and strong winds, filter soil, and serve as breeding grounds for sea creatures. As a result, healthier mangrove forests contribute to sustainable fisheries, supporting the livelihoods of local fishermen and their families.
