1. Highest sensitivity and image quality in the history of LUMIX cameras with a new sensor
The new LUMIX GH5S was developed to pursue the highest picture quality in high sensitivity video recording by newly integrating a 10.2-mega effective pixels Live MOS Sensor with Dual Native ISO technology and the latest Venus Engine. Dual Native ISO is a technology that seamlessly bridges two circuits of separate native ISO, which is used in Panasonic Varicam models for professionals. Normally, noise increases as sensitivity rises with a single native ISO image sensor, however, the new image sensor with Dual Native ISO in GH5S minimizes noise generation by choosing an optimal circuit to use according to the sensitivity before gain processing. As a result, it allows a maximum ISO 51200 high sensitivity recording. This Dual Native ISO technology can be switched manually between LOW(ISO160-800) and HIGH (ISO800-51200)
This sensor is a multi-aspect type with a sufficient margin for recording the same angle of view at the same focal length in C4K, 4K, Anamorphic 4:3 in video recording, and 4:3,3:2, and 16:9 aspect ratios in photoshooting.
The High Sensitivity MOS Sensor and Venus Engine realize a high-speed readout of full digital signals and the image quality is outstandingly high for every single frame. The signal readout speed is accelerated by approximately 1.3x* in the new Digital Live MOS Sensor and rolling shutter is also suppressed with the high readout speed when recording video or using an electronic shutter.
The sensor also supports photoshooting in 14-bit RAW format, providing higher flexibility for professional RAW development workflows.

2. Outstanding video recording performance to meet professional standards
The LUMIX GH5 achieved the world’s first*1 4K 60p / 50p video recording as a Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera and the new GH5S further enables C4K 60p / 50p video recording*2. It is also capable of internal 4:2:2 10-bit video recording*3, which is a color subsampling commonly used for film production, for faithful color reproduction. Users can freely choose the format from MOV, MP4, AVCHD Progressive and AVCHD at a variety of frame rates according to the usage [Figure#1] and there is no recording time limit*4 for both Full-HD and 4K video. The LUMIX GH5S also records 4:2:2 10-bit 400-Mbps All-Intra in Cinema 4K 24p and 4K 30p/25p/24p and 200-Mbps All-Intra in Full-HD. For the global needs of professional users, the system frequency can also be flexibly selectable between 59.94Hz / 50.00Hz / 24.00Hz. The LUMIX GH5S complies with 4K HDR video. The HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a mode to reproduce both bright part and dark part in an image, making it look just as human eyes see. The camera records video with a designated gamma curve compatible with ITU-R BT.2100, and you can now choose Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) in Photo Style. This mode can be used not only in 4K/FHD but also in any 10-bit recording modes. A low-bit-rate recording mode 4K HEVC for HLG is also available, which enables playback on AV equipment compatible with the HEVC compression format, such as Panasonic 4K HDR TVs.
To elevate the video expression even more, a variety of effects are available on the LUMIX GH5S. The VFR (Variable Frame Rate) lets users record overcranked / undercranked video in C4K/4K (60 fps, maximum 2.5x slower in 24p) and FHD (240 fps, maximum 10x slower in 24p) [#Figure2]*5. The minimum frame rate for quick motion video is 2 fps. A Focus Transition function is available, which moves the focus from subject to subject as set in advance automatically. It can add visual guidance to the target subject or motion on the static scene.
The V-LogL is pre-installed in the LUMIX GH5S. Log recording offers exceptional flexibility as well as a wider dynamic range for color grading in the post-production process, and V-LogL features log characteristics with 12 stops of dynamic range. LUT (Look Up Table) with Rec.709 standard is available in the camera by default, and users can also customize the LUT in VLT format. It is possible to see the video footage with LUT applied, not only in live view but also in playback with the V-LogL View Assist function. While “Cinelike D” and “Cinelike V”, which have similar gamma setting characteristics for film production, are available in Photo Style for video recording, the LUMIX GH5S provides "Like709" for compatibility with HDTV. In "Like709", Knee Control is also effective. Now V-LogL and Like709 can be used for interval photoshooting in Time Lapse Shot mode.
The LUMIX GH5S is compatible with Time Code IN/OUT synchronization through the flash synchro terminal and bundled BNC converter cable with BNC cable. This makes the non-linear editing of footage shot with multiple cameras easy. LINE input is also supported by a 3.5mm microphone jack. This makes it possible to input sounds from an external audio device, for more efficient video production.
Practical tools like Waveform Monitor and Vector Scope are also available. For the terminal, HDMI Type A is provided. Plus, a cable lock holder for the HDMI cable is included in the LUMIX GH5S to prevent unplugging trouble on location.
In addition, the LUMIX GH5S incorporates a dedicated microphone to monitor and cancel the noise caused by mechanical movements inside the camera and lens. The result is a reduction of mechanical noise by -10dB, achieving clear, high-quality sound recording.
