The story behind the concept of Art & Interior

Michael: Art and interior are triangulating with technology to create the field of our exploration. A piece of technology that becomes part of the environment, and blends into the home of an interior conscious customer. In that context a piece of art is a focus point, a central piece that has a story to tell - these elements became the tensions in our work.

George:Within this project, we wanted to explore two different mindsets. One of someone that is looking for intergration and someone who wants the object to really stand out and have a presence within the home environment, like a piece of Art.
So it was really about understanding those two different mindsets.

Kimura: We also faced challenges on how to intergrate our products within the home. How to match our products to a real life context. To solve this, we created rapid prototypes of our ideas and tested them in European homes. During the process we also made sure the materials and colours fit the environment.

Thoughts on European design trends

Michael: Europe is and always has been a place of diversity, this has both historic and geographic reasons. In recent years we have seen many styles blend and surprising new connections appear, a form of eclecticism where different forms, materials and colours coexist and create a new and surprising harmony.
Europeans are generally very interior conscious and see the home as a place for self expression.

George: Yes, people are looking for objects that connect and enrich their experiences emotionally. It starts with being true to materials, celebrating their origins and intrinsic qualities such as objects that are smart, flexible and customisable.

Angeline: As we enter a new and exciting era of luxury, CMF proposes new sophisticated developments within materials and finishes. Those that will transform our perception of colour and create special products and sumptuous environments. A sophisticated and integrated design to highlight beautiful craftsmanship through colour and materials.
