Great Lenses Make Great Cameras.

Great Lenses Make Great Cameras.

Revolutionary lenses are developed and manufactured by industry-leading technologies

Image of Great Lenses Make Great Cameras.

The lens is a gateway for light.
That’s why it forms such an essential part of the camera. In its pursuit of truly natural photographic textures and
atmospheres, LUMIX has always aimed for the ultimate lens.
This led LUMIX to introduce the world’s first* lens with optical image stabilization for a compact digital camera, and to build a mass production system for the aspherical lenses that provide both superb images and a compact size.
It’s also the reason why LUMIX is so highly acclaimed both for lens quality and for its unique lens production and evaluation technologies.
More than anyone else, LUMIX takes pride in crafting each and every lens with tremendous skill and care.

Lens innovation.
It all starts with LUMIX.

High-quality LEICA DC / DG / D Lenses

There are presently three categories - LEICA DC lenses for compact cameras, LEICA DG lenses for the LUMIX G, and LEICA D lenses for digital SRLs. Passing Leica’s stringent standards, they boast exceptional optical performance, while maintaining a
small size.

World Renowned LEICA Lenses Manufactured by Panasonic

Ever since Oskar Barnack invented the “Ur Leica” in 1914, Leica has worked non-stop to introduce revolutionary cameras and lenses based on advanced optical technologies, and advanced progress in the field of photography.

LEICA DC / DG / D lenses are manufactured by Panasonic using measurement instruments and a strict quality assurance system certified by Leica Camera AG.

*LEICA is a registered trademark of Leica Microsystems IR GmbH. The LEICA DG lenses and LEICA D lenses are manufactured using measurement instruments and quality assurance systems that have been certified by Leica Camera AG based on the
company’s quality standards.

Superb Image Rendering

Even though a wide variety of cameras are made, each one uses the same principle of light passing through a lens and being recorded as an image. As lens performance differs, so does the look and characteristics of the resulting images.

Image of Superb Image Rendering
Image of Sharp Resolution

Resolution is an indication of how accurately a single thin line can be produced. With LUMIX lenses, even an individual stand of hair is rendered with astonishing clarity and detail.

Image of Minimal Spherical Distortion

Wide-angle shots taken with most lenses tend to have distortion near the edges. With their superb image rendering, LUMIX lenses capture buildings and other objects with clarity and beauty.

Image of Bright Lenses

In 2012, cameras with incredibly bright lenses have been added to the LUMIX line-up: The DMC-LX7, featuring a LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMILUX lens and full-range F1.4-F2.3 brightness, and the DMC-FZ200, with a 24x optical zoom lens and full-range F2.8 aperture.

Minimal Ghosts and Flaring

A variety of lens technologies are used to create sharp, clear images. A thin coating is
vacuum deposited onto the surface of the lens to reduce the amount of light that reflects
off the lens surface or inside the lens, and to increase the amount of light passing
through the lens.

Image of Multicoated Lenses

Multicoated lenses suppress ghost and flaring, while ensuring optimum color balance. They greatly improve the image rendering performance when shooting against a light source.

Image of Nano Surface Coating

The Nano Surface Coating technology boasts an extremely low reflectance ratio and is applied to lenses for exceptional optical performance with stunning clarity by minimizing ghost and flaring.

Ultra Wide-Angle

The aspherical lenses that are widely used in wide-angle lenses are extremely difficult
to produce because they demand high dimensional accuracy. But Panasonic has made
great strides in this area. This has made it possible to provide ordinary users with
versatile, wide-angle lenses.

Image of Aspherical Lenses

The aspherical lens has the same effect as several spherical lenses, so a higher magnification ratio can be achieved with fewer lenses. The result is a smaller overall
size and weight.

Image of Prevent Abberation

Aberration is unavoidable with spherical lenses. Aspherical lenses can optimally correct aberration, resulting in light rays being focused on a single, ideal point.

High Zoom and Tele Zoom in a Compact Size

Telephoto lenses used to be large, heavy and difficult to carry around. LUMIX achieved
greatly downsizing and reducing the weight of digital camera with zoom function in
compact camera like the FZ-series and TZ(ZS)-series, and the LUMIX G Digital Single
Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) models with digital interchangeable lenses.

Image of Extra-Low Dispersion Lens

The ED lens is used mainly in telephoto lenses and wide-angle zoom lenses. The ED
lens suppresses the prism’s color separation effect to correct longitudinal chromatic

Image of Power Zoom Lenses

In 2011, the LUMIX G released the world’s first* digital interchangeable power zoom
lenses. While maintaining ultra-high mobility, they boast superb optical performance.

Optical Image Stabilizer

The O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) compensates for the blurring caused by
hand-shake. With optical system, the image is not electronically processed so there is
minimal degradation and higher quality.

Beautiful Blur-less Images

Apart from the digital image correction, the O.I.S. corrects a jolt of the light axis by
shifting the lens unit to offset it. Thus the image is not affected digitally nor deteriorated
at all.

Image of THE X LENS

The X Lens for LUMIX G

High-performance X lenses crystallize Panasonic’s optical technologies. Superb image
rendering produce lifelike textures and natural atmospheres with remarkable
transparency, while crisp, edge-to-edge contrast and a unique Nano Surface Coating
minimize ghost and flaring.

Nano Surface Coating Technology

This technology minimizes reflection across the entire visual light range (280nm-780nm)
by applying an extra-low refractive index coating with a nano-sized structure onto the
surface of the lens.

Professional Manufacturing Technology

Thanks to their rigorous manufacturing standards, Panasonic lenses have gained high
worldwide acclaim for their accuracy and image quality. Panasonic’s efficient production
environment also makes it possible to pursue a new, more creative world of digital
cameras and lenses.

Uncompromising Devotion to High Image Quality

The LUMIX G, LEICA DC / DG / D lenses are manufactured by an integrated production system in the Panasonic Yamagata Plant in Japan. From lens to assembly, inspection, and individual packaging, all processes are conducted in clean rooms.
To inspect aspherical lenses, Panasonic uses an instrument called the UA3P Ultra-Accurate 3D Profilometer, which was originally developed by Panasonic and now plays an essential role in the development and manufacturing activities of many optical device manufacturers.
Using this instrument, with its measurement accuracy of 1/10,000 mm, Panasonic conducts objective, numerical evaluations.
These criteria are then used to determine the presence of flaring, the color of coatings, the operating feel of the focus ring, etc., in order to ensure high-quality production control.
