Tips For a Clean, Fresh Microwave Oven

Use these handy tips that will show you how make your microwave cleaner with a sparkling fresh, odour-free result.

Tips for a Clean, Fresh Microwave Oven

Microwave Cleaning Made Easy

To keep your microwave fresh, the best practice is to clean your microwave immediately after each use, but many of us see this as a time-consuming chore. It doesn’t have to be. When you’re required to clean, check out some of our top tips on how to make your microwave cleaner in an easy and more effective way.

Tried and Tested

If your microwave isn’t very dirty, utilise the power of microwave oven cleaners such as simple household detergents or a surface spray to clean the microwave and get the job done.

Simply add a drop or two of household detergent to some warm water. Soak a microfiber cloth and just give the insides of your microwave a decent wipe down. The soapy water will cut through any grease and food splatter like a charm!

Alternatively, a mild general purpose surface spray and some elbow grease should make easy work of light splatter.

A Lemon Fresh Solution

A Lemon Fresh Solution

If your microwave has seen better days, give this all-natural solution a try!
This method not only works well to cut grease and grime, it also leaves your microwave smelling lemon fresh!

1. Fill a medium size bowl with approximately 1 cup or 250ml of water.
2. Add in the slices of a whole lemon.
3. Place the bowl into the microwave and heat for 3 minutes on high power.
4. Let it stand for 5 minutes, without opening microwave door.
5. Remove bowl and wipe down the interior of the microwave.

The lemon water will turn into steam during the microwave process. The acidity in the citrus helps to break down any grease and fat in your microwave, making it a breeze to achieve a fresh, sparkling result.

The Power of Coffee

Recently had fish or curry in the microwave oven and just want to get rid of the odour? Fresh coffee grinds could be your solution!

Put a bowl of fresh coffee grinds into the microwave overnight. Don’t turn the microwave on. Just let it sit there and wait for it to work its magic. When you return in the morning the odour will have absorbed into the grinds, so you can breathe easy again.

Cleaning your microwave is easy, but you should still work in a careful manner. Don’t use a scraper, steel wool or other sharp or abrasive product when trying to remove baked-on grime.

Follow these tips and include the microwave in your regular cleaning schedule for a long life and enjoyable cooking for you and your family.
