Phase Hybrid AutoFocus
The most important thing with autofocus is to be dependable. It’s all about how quickly and accurately you can capture the subject. In addition to contrast AF, the LUMIX S5II is the first LUMIX mirrorless camera to offer the Phase Detection AF system, which dramatically improves subject tracking and light recognition performance. Delivering accuracy even in challenging conditions such as backlit or low light environments.
Human/Animal/Car/Motorcycle recognition
The LUMIX S5II’s advanced detection AF pushes the envelope on of sports, wildlife, and car/motorcycle photography. More accurate human body recognition enables you to single out a subject from among a field of athletes, for example, and shoot continuously. Other new functions include animal eye recognition and car/motorcycle recognition.*

779-point AF
The number of AF points has been increased to 779. The improved tracking performance allows the camera to continue to capture even small subjects. When using 1-Area AF, the AF frame can be set as small as pinpoint level, helping the creator focus on the subject as intended.
Great for shooting as you walk: Active I.S. Technology
LUMIX has long supported hand-held shooting with B.I.S. and 5-Axis Dual I.S.2, and now the LUMIX S5II is equipped with Active I.S., which supports walking shots, to further enhance image stabilization in video recording. Active I.S. determines the status of camera shake and optimizes correction ratios to compensate even for significant motion, while advanced E.I.S.* suppresses peripheral distortion that occurs during video shooting. So now you can capture beautiful images, even if you need to move quickly while the camera is rolling.

5-axis Dual I.S. 2 (Image Stabilisation) combines control of the B.I.S. and Lens O.I.S. to offer 6.5 stops’ worth of correction.*
