Humans ingest more air each day than any other substance.

Like food and water, air sustains us. These days, for health reasons, more and more people are carefully choosing the food they eat and the water they drink, but few consider choosing the air they breathe.

By weight, air accounts for an impressive 83% of what we ingest each day. Food and drink amount to only 7% and 8%, respectively. The air we breathe, therefore, has a major impact on our bodies. On average, 57% of the air we breathe is indoor air, which explains the growing interest in indoor air quality, or IAQ.

A new era of choosing air for health

Air is fundamental to our lifestyles. Unfortunately, it’s often not as clean as we’d like to think.

In many places there are pollutants in the air we breathe, such as nitrogen oxides and particulate matter generated by economic activity, mould that grows in innumerable places, and allergens such as pollens, mite feces and dead mites.

The time has come to choose the air you breathe—for your own health and that of your family and other loved ones.

Controlling IAQ with the seven aspects of air quality

Panasonic breaks down IAQ into seven aspects of air quality—temperature, humidity, air purification, airflow, disinfection, deodorising, and fragrance. By controlling these aspects, we enhance IAQ for all types of spaces.

Until now, many independently operated devices have been used to monitor air quality. To simplify and improve the process, Panasonic has integrated these devices to control air quality within a certain range, even when outdoor air changes, by independently monitoring temperature, odour and other elements of air quality. But we’re not done yet. To further improve IAQ, we are continuing to conduct research and development on disinfection and deodorisation.

Value provided by the Integrated Air Quality and Conditioning System

Clean air

• Volatilized hypochlorous acid and a diluted sodium hypochlorite solution generated disinfects airborne and adhering bacteria.1
• Odorous substances in the air are drawn in and decomposed by hypochlorous acid.
• New nanoe™ X inhibits viruses and bacteria, deodorizes, and inhibits PM 2.5 and pollens, as well as the growth of moulds inside the indoor unit of the air conditioner.2
• The system circulates indoor air and uses an electrostatic HEPA filter to collect airborne dust.

Reduces dryness from heating

• Humidity is recovered by total heat exchange in the energy recovery ventilation fan and humidification provided by ziaino™, resulting in comfortable humidity levels in winter.
• Automatic humidification using the minimum amount of water required is achieved with centrifugal crushing humidification technology. Water intake pipes are connected, eliminating the need for water supply.
• The humidification unit requires no cleaning because there is no vaporization filter that can clog with residual chlorine.

Enhanced energy efficiency through integration of three devices

Further reduction in operational load through use of an energy-efficient air conditioner and variable ventilation air volume settings in energy recovery ventilation fans.
• The sensor in the remote control of the ceiling-mounted ziaino™ monitors CO2 concentration, automatically matching the ventilation air volume. When CO2 concentration is high, air volume is set to high for boosted ventilation. When CO2 concentration is low, ventilation air volume is set to low for energy efficiency.
• The air conditioner has industry-leading3 energy-efficiency and can operate in a comfortable energy-saving mode according to humidity.

Assumptions: Operating Monday to Friday
• Office space with a floor area of 1,000 m2 and a ceiling height of 2.7 m (with 30 m2 of windows on the north and south sides)
• Climate: Tokyo
• Air conditioners: 8 units with 7kW of cooling power and 8kW of heating power (COP: 3.41 in summer, 4.02 in winter)
• Humidity control: 8 ceiling-mounted ziaino™ units (FY-350JCD1)
• Ventilation: 12 ventilation fans (FY-18WCF3) or 12 energy recovery ventilation fans (FY-500ZD10)
• Ventilation air volume: 6,000 m3/h (4,200 m3/h in 24-hour ventilation modes; weak notch)
• Air conditioner operation time: 8:00 to 17:00
• Ventilation fan operation time in powerful mode: 8:00 to 18:00
• Room occupancy: 200 people from 7:30 to 17:00, 2 people from 11:30 to 13:00 (lunch), 100 people from 17:00 to 20:00 (overtime work)
• CO2 control: When the CO2 concentration is more than 1,000 ppm, the system runs in powerful mode; in other conditions, it runs in economy mode
