Fuelling a greener tomorrow with our hydrogen fuel cell technology

For over 25 years, Panasonic has passionately invested in research and development of hydrogen fuel cell technology. Today, our commitment to developing sustainable energy solutions is an integral part of our Panasonic HX business strategy, which aims to promote the future of hydrogen and its potential to transform energy usage. It allows you to produce locally and be energy resilient.

Every fuel cell is part of the plan.

Find out more about how Panasonic incorporates its own fuel cell technologies into demonstration proof-of-concept solutions, called ‘Panasonic HX’.

“We believe renewable, and hydrogen energy are essential for a net-zero carbon future. Panasonic is dedicated to addressing global environmental challenges with our hydrogen fuel cell technologies through 2030 and 2040.”
– Aiba Masaya, Director of the Energy Strategy Office, Panasonic Corporation.

It's nice when a plan starts to take shape.

Panasonic is committed to the long-term advancement of hydrogen and sustainable energy solutions. For instance, in Europe, Panasonic has made significant investments in its facilities to develop Proof of Concept (POC) projects, Panasonic HX. It seamlessly integrates solar panels, hydrogen fuel cells, along with the proprietary Energy Management System, and, in some instances, with the addition of storage batteries.

Every Innovation is part of the plan.

In 2025, Panasonic launched Germany's first Panasonic HX sustainable energy solution, powered by regionally sourced green hydrogen. The facility includes five hydrogen fuel cells, each providing 10 kW, combined with solar panels, aiming to supply 100% green electricity to the Customer Experience Center (CXC) near Munich.

The Plan: Panasonic GREEN IMPACT

Reduction of 300+ million tonnes of CO2 by 2050

The Panasonic Group aims to create impact that reduces and avoids CO₂ emissions by at least 300 million tons by 2050.

100% Net-Zero CO2 Factories by 2030

Within our own business operations, we aim to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 110 million tons by 2050.

Our Circular Economy Business Strategy

We will contribute to the realisation of a circular economy, using resources efficiently in the product lifecycle.

In January 2022, we launched our Mid- to long-term Environmental Vision, Panasonic GREEN IMPACT (PGI), based on our belief that global environmental challenges, including climate change, are the most pressing global issues to prioritize across all our group businesses. PGI was formulated with the intention of accumulating efforts (Act) aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions within our Group and in society, as we work in concert with society to achieve carbon neutrality.
