AV Technology Delivered the Thrills of the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games to All

The BC Place Stadium hosted the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Winter Games Vancouver 2010. This colossal venue with a capacity of 60,000 featured three Panasonic LED displays.
Panasonic’s LED large-screen display systems were also installed at David Lam Park, a Live Site open to the public and running real-time Olympic Games coverage. During the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games, the crisp images and dynamic sounds emerging from the screens made spectators feel as if they were witnessing the event from inside the BC Place Stadium.
In close proximity to downtown, Stanley Park has long been a place of recreation for Vancouverites. Across the harbor, the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) served as a hub delivering exciting Olympic Games footage to more than 200 countries. Panasonic supplied a number of broadcast equipment and Plasma displays to the IBC, supporting the activities of international broadcasters.

Highly Reliable, High-Performance Equipment

Cypress Mountain was the venue for the freestyle ski and snowboard competitions. The highly-reliable Panasonic equipment functioned steadily even in this harsh environment. The P2HD series cameras and audio equipment were among those adopted as official broadcasting equipment of the Olympic Winter Games Vancouver 2010.

P2HD series cameras have the ability to store HD video in P2 cards (semiconductor memory cards) in lieu of video tapes. Because the camera contained no mechanical parts needed for tape recording, it offered excellent reliability even under extremely cold conditions.
The total solution was made possible by Panasonic’s experience in developing various audio products. Panasonic audio systems fit the environmentally-conscious scope of the Olympic Winter Games by adopting technology such as wireless. The stable and lightning-fast performance was made possible by Panasonic’s many years of experience.
