Abilities and attributes kids can develop by producing videos

The goal of the KWN program goes beyond just making videos. The experience of making videos on their own helps foster kids’ communication skills and many other abilities.

1. Awareness of social issues By selecting topical issues for their videos, kids are given the chance to think more deeply about the social issues around them and make the issues their own. 2. Awareness of teamwork and role sharing Kids learn to recognize their role within a larger team. The program gets them to realize what actions are required to effectively fulfill their role and enables them to carry out the actions. 3. Communication skills Through the experience of taking on a project as a team, kids improve their communication skills for exchanging and coordinating ideas among themselves. 4. Relationship-building skills Kids learn to tackle an endeavor through understanding themselves and others and cooperating with others. 5. Future-planning skills Kids enhance their ability to apply their hopes and dreams in thinking about how they will live in the future and proactively plan their future. 6. Ability to utilize information The program allows kids to develop their capacity to examine a wide range of information and apply that information to make choices about how they will live in the future. 7. Decision-making ability Kids cultivate the ability to take the initiative and responsibility to make their own decisions and to take positive action on issues that affect them. 8. Local community interest and understanding By making videos, kids deepen their interest in their local community and their desire to make it better. 9.
