Firmware 3.0 offers 4K60p 10-bit Capture and Hardwire Remote Control
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Panasonic has announced a free firmware upgrade, Version 3.0, for the AU-EVA1, which provides greater cost efficiency and futureproofing for the handheld cinema camera. Announced at the ongoing CABSAT 2019 at the Dubai World Trade Center, the third firmware upgrade features a new HEVC H.265 codec that can record in 4K 50p/60p video with 4:2:0 10bit video sampling. Compared to the H.264 codec in version two, this allows up to twice the amount of compressed data, while maintaining the same high-quality resolution.
In addition, Firmware ver.3.0 adds HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) H.265 recording for 4K 10-bit recording up to 60 frames per second. HEVC H.265 has twice the efficiency of H.264, allowing 4K30p 10-bit recording at 150Mbps and 4K60p 10-bit recording at 200Mbps. Most of the popular NLEs (Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, etc.) support the HEVC codecs, and computers using Intel Core i7 chips (7th generation or later) are assured of smooth playback and much more efficient performance.
TIP Control Support
• Three USB-LAN(RJ45) adapters available for IP control with a tablet/smartphone (iOS/Android) or a 3rd party’s controller (CyanView for EVA1 multicam shooting)
• Added User Button functions for quick switching of shooting modes & frame rates
Other Functions
• SDR (REC.709) color output on LCD/SDI/HDMI for monitoring when HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) is selected
• Focus position indicator (m/ft) on OSD
• AWB Memory 2ch (A/B ch) support
• Still Image Capture: capturing JPEG image in playback mode, enabling the EVA1 to capture still JPEG images and store them on to the SD card.
