*This function combines optical zoom and crop zoom, allowing you to extend the telephoto range using only the zoom ring without changing the focal length at the wide-end. **Compatible with the DC-S1M2, S1M2ES, S5M2, S5M2X and S9. When using the DC-S1RM2, the maximum focal length is 2,105mm. The maximum focal length varies depending on the camera model. Up to 1000mm with Teleconverters

Compatible with the optional 1.4x (DMW-STC14) and 2.0x (DMW-STC20) teleconverters, this lens extends your focal length to 700mm* or even 1000mm*. Even at these extended focal lengths, the compact setup allows handheld shooting without a tripod, making it ideal for dynamic telephotography in the field.

*Use of the teleconverter reduces the effective aperture by one f/stop (DMW-STC14) or two f/stops (DMW-STC20).
**When a teleconverter is attached, the focal length of this lens is limited to 150–500mm.

S 100-500 F5-7.1 Lens Construction

This lens is engineered to deliver high-contrast, colour-accurate results even at longer focal lengths. By combining two UED (Ultra Extra-low Dispersion) and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements, it effectively reduces chromatic aberration and colour fringing. The result is cleaner, sharper images with improved clarity across the frame, making it ideal for detailed telephoto work.

Up to 7 Stops* of Image Stabilisation with Dual I.S. 2

In addition to the optical image stabilisation (O.I.S.), this lens supports Dual I.S. 2, which works together with the camera’s B.I.S. to deliver up to 7 stops* of compensation at the telephoto range. Normally, the correction angle decreases as the focal length increases, but Dual I.S. makes it possible to compensate for camera shake even in the telephoto range.
Whether shooting handheld at telephoto or using slow shutter speeds, you can shoot confidently without worrying about hand-shake blur.

Frequently used functions can be assigned to the customisable focus ring or focus button (Fn button) for instant access. In manual focus mode, the lens offers precise, intuitive adjustments that align with your creative intent. Even when mounted on a tripod, the bundled tripod mount allows you to rotate the lens between horizontal and vertical positions without moving the tripod head.

Tight-Smooth Ring

The new tight-smooth ring lets you adjust the zoom ring's feel for optimal control. From delicate framing to fast zooming, you can achieve the precise handling you need while preventing unintended zoom movements.

Focus Limiter Switch

The built-in focus switch lets you limit the AF range, helping the lens avoid locking onto nearby distractions like foliage, glass, or fences. By restricting the AF range from the near distance to 5 meters, it speeds up focusing and improves accuracy.

O.I.S. Switch

This lens is designed to keep shooting in the toughest conditions thanks to its dust- and splash-resistant construction* and allows you to shoot in temperatures as low as -10°C. The fluorine coating applied to the front lens makes it easy to remove oil-based dirt sticking to it.
